The ideal candidate is a hands-on database expert who ensures the performance, availability, security, and integrity of business-critical data systems, while mentoring junior team members and driving best practices across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, and maintain database systems across AWS Redshift, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle environments, ensuring high availability and optimal performance.
- Monitor database performance, proactively identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies including query optimization, indexing, and partitioning.
- Lead capacity planning and scalability initiatives, including cloud resource optimization for AWS Redshift environments.
- Design and implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to safeguard data integrity and minimize downtime.
- Plan and execute database upgrades, patches, and migrations with minimal disruption to production systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex database incidents, performing root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures.
- Manage database security, including user access controls, roles, encryption, and compliance with data governance and regulatory requirements.
- Establish and enforce database standards, policies, and best practices across the organization.
- Develop and maintain documentation for database architecture, configurations, standard operating procedures, and runbooks.

- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior DBAs.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical production systems.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 7+ years of progressive DBA experience, including hands-on administration of at least two of the following: AWS Redshift, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle.
- Proven experience designing and executing backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies in production environments.
- Strong grounding in performance tuning: query optimization, indexing strategy, partitioning, and capacity planning.
- Working knowledge of database security practices — access control, roles, encryption at rest/in transit, and audit/compliance requirements.
- Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell, with experience automating routine DBA tasks; familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) is a plus.
- Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., AWS Certified Database – Specialty, Oracle OCP, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate).
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading technical best-practice initiatives.
- Strong written communication skills for documentation, SOPs, and runbooks.
- Comfortable participating in an on-call rotation.
Nice to Have
- Experience operating in regulated or public-sector environments with strict data governance and compliance requirements.
- Exposure to multi-account/multi-tenant cloud environments.
- Prior experience leading migrations or major version upgrades with minimal production disruption.
