Summary
Lead maintenance of high-voltage electrical systems, substations, and industrial power distribution in a mining facility, ensuring reliability, safety, and compliance with engineering standards.
- Core Responsibilities – LV Maintenance
- Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage electrical equipment (switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, power lines, etc.).
- Conduct preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on HV power distribution systems.
- Ensure proper operation and reliability of substations, transmission lines, and electrical protection systems.
- Maintain earthing, lightning protection, and insulation systems for HV networks
- Perform installation, testing, and maintenance of LV electrical systems, including distribution panels, switchboards, MCCs, control circuits, and power outlets.
- Troubleshoot motor controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), soft starters, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment to minimize downtime.
- Ensure proper operation of lighting systems, UPS (uninterruptible power supply) units, and small power circuits
- Implement and monitor asset management and engineering best practice standards and procedures aimed at managing operational risk, minimizing operating costs and improving asset overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) across AML.
- Developing standards, SOPs, procedures and guidelines for the Energy Generation and Distribution.
- Diagnose and repair short circuits, electrical overloads, grounding faults, and insulation failures.
- Utilize electrical testing equipment (multimeters, megohmmeters, power analyzers) to assess system performance.
- Respond promptly to electrical failures, ensuring rapid restoration of operations.
- Develop and manage asset-specific risk management plans aimed at managing asset integrity, asset safety and people’s safety.
- Review and develop maintenance practices aimed at improving asset reliability and performance.
- Facilitate and participate in root cause analysis (RCA) for critical equipment breakdowns and develop corrective/preventive/predictive actions to prevent recurrence establishing or following formal Reliability method.
- Manage, implement and contribute to continuous improvement and asset optimization initiatives and projects for asset management processes.
- Conduct maintainability audits and studies of components and systems to reduce unplanned asset downtime.
- Provide second-party quality assurance with the Maintenance Planning function.
- Control and implement formal “change management”.
- Plan and execute activities aimed at compliance with all legal, environmental, occupational health, and safety. (Codes of practice (COP) and safe operating procedures (SOP).
- Ensure the safe installation, proper operation, running and maintenance of all machinery and equipment across ArcelorMittal Liberia.
- Support all areas of Maintenance Energy Generation and Distribution
- Developing design details as subject matter expert for SIB projects.

Coach and mentor junior engineers.
Compliance & Safety:
- Adhere to electrical safety standards (IEEE, IEC, OSHA, MSHA) and ensure compliance with company safety protocols.
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and risk assessment processes when performing maintenance.
- Maintain proper grounding and insulation protection to prevent electrical hazards.
System Optimization & Upgrades:
- Assist in upgrading HV and LV distribution systems to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Support automation and control system improvements for enhanced process optimization.
- Work with engineering teams on electrical modifications, expansions, and new installations.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of work orders, electrical schematics, test results, and maintenance logs.
- Report any electrical hazards, system inefficiencies, or potential failures to supervisors.
- Ensure all electrical drawings and documentation are kept up to date.
Qualifications / Experience / Technical Knowledge:
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electricity, or a related field.
- Certification as a Licensed Electrician or Electrical Technician preferred.
- Additional training in PLC programming, automation, or electrical protection systems is an advantage.
- 10+ years of experience working with low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems in mining, heavy industry, or manufacturing.
- Hands-on experience with motor control circuits, lighting systems, and industrial power distribution.
- Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting, SCADA systems, and automation controls.
- Electrical Distribution & Control Systems – Strong understanding of HV and LV switchgear, power distribution panels, and motor control centers (MCCs).
- Testing & Diagnostic Tools – Proficiency in using mustimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, and fault locators.
- Motor Controls & Drives – Knowledge of VFDs, soft starters, and contactor-based motor starters.
- Automation & Instrumentation – Basic understanding of PLCs, sensors, and industrial communication protocols.
- English: fluent.
- Experience in business process improvements will be advantageous.
- Skilled in Maintenance methodologies and corresponding tools.
