Job Description:

Lyons Lift drivers support individuals with permanent or temporary mobility limitations with rides on campus, ensuring them safe and friendly access to classes, dining, and other campus locations, as well as the Village Commons. Driver shifts start at 7:45am through the early afternoon Mondays through Thursdays throughout the semester. Shifts are primarily spent in the van providing rides based on the schedule for that day as well as fielding calls to schedule additional rides as-needed. Primary responsibilities include safe operation of vehicles on shift, effective management of ride scheduling, knowledge of campus pickup locations, comfort working with people with disabilities, and maintaining a helpful, kind, and safety-forward attitude while engaging with student riders.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safe transportation of individuals on route

  • Assist individuals entering and exiting the vehicle as needed

  • Possess knowledge of relevant ADA guidelines and familiarity with ramp deployment and wheelchair securement technology

  • Provide curb-to-curb service in a professional, safe, and courteous manner

  • Conduct and document vehicle safety checks before each shift

  • Maintain punctuality for rides on shift

  • Manage scheduling with passengers during shifts

  • Report and record all incidents to Public Safety Dispatch and document for the Lyons Lift Supervisor

  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism

  • Keep vehicle clean and free of trash

  • Record daily ridership records

  • Communicate with the direct supervisor any issues or concerns

  • Other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:

  • You must be a fleet-certified driver or able to become certified

  • Valid driver’s license (any state) and satisfactory driving record (no violations within the last year)

  • Satisfactory criminal background check and drug/alcohol screen may be required

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Call volume can be very high before and after classes, as well as during bad weather

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, pleasant and friendly demeanor

  • Demonstrates ability to work independently

  • Experience working with people with disabilities and people with mobility limitations.

  • Demonstrates skill in understanding cultural differences

Hiring Range: $21.87 - $24.05
