Summary

Test Engineer at aerospace satellite maker SWISSto12 in Switzerland: plans, runs, and manages mechanical, environmental, and materials lab testing, maintains test procedures and equipment, analyzes results, and writes technical reports supporting development and qualification of HummingSat satellites and 3D-printed RF products.

SWISSto12 is one of the world’s fastest-growing aerospace companies, evolving from its pioneering use of 3D printing technologies for high-performance Radio Frequency (RF) products and applications to recently announcing the manufacture of entire geostationary telecom satellites, called HummingSat, that define a new category in space.

HummingSat is the world’s first commercial telecom GEO SmallSat developed in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA). Its uniquely compact size combined with highly capable telecom payloads allows telecommunications operators to deploy a cost-efficient, compact, and agile asset without sacrificing performance or security. HummingSat has been selected by Intelsat to build the I-45 satellite, by Inmarsat to build three I-8 satellites, and recently by Astrum Mobile to build the NEASTAR-1 satellite.

SWISSto12 is also a leading provider of Radio-Frequency (RF) products and sub-systems for satellite communication and remote sensing applications. The company’s patented 3D printing technologies and associated product designs are unique to deliver lightweight, compact, highly performing, and competitive RF products.

This position is a unique opportunity to play a key role in the development, qualification, and control of advanced materials, manufacturing processes, and hardware for the aerospace industry. The Test Engineer will work closely with the Materials & Processes, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to plan, execute, and oversee testing activities that support product development, qualification, and production. Beyond the execution of tests, the Test Engineer will be responsible for managing laboratory operations, developing and maintaining test procedures, ensuring equipment readiness, and delivering high-quality test data and technical reports to internal stakeholders. This position is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys laboratory work, technical problem solving, process improvement, and taking ownership of laboratory capabilities and resources.

  • Manage laboratory test requests, scheduling based upon business priority.
  • Develop and maintain test procedures, instructions, and documentation.
  • Define test setups, instrumentation, acceptance criteria, and data acquisition methods.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and environmental test facilities.
  • Analyze results, investigate anomalies, and prepare technical test reports.
  • Ensure traceability, calibration, laboratory readiness, and data integrity.
  • Support design verification, qualification, failure investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable quality, aerospace, environmental, and safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Materials, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in laboratory, environmental, materials, or mechanical testing.
  • Hands-on experience with test equipment, environmental chambers, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
  • Ability to develop, interpret, and execute test plans, procedures, and technical specifications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, reporting, and communication skills.
  • Experience managing multiple test activities in a fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Familiarity with calibration, equipment maintenance, and laboratory operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and test standards.
