Mail Sorting Systems Engineer

Join Jersey Post as a Mail Sorting Systems Engineer where you'll play a key role in keeping our automated mail and parcel processing equipment running safely and efficiently.

You'll be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and improving a range of automated systems, including parcel and letter sorting machines, conveyors and parcel locker networks. Working closely with operational teams, you'll help minimise downtime, support continuous improvement initiatives and ensure equipment is operating at peak performance.
  • Operate, monitor and maintain automated mail and parcel sorting equipment to ensure efficient daily operations.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and respond to equipment faults to minimise operational downtime.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and control system issues across sorting machinery and associated equipment.
  • Maintain parcel locker networks and supporting infrastructure across the island.
  • Update and support sorting systems, including software, calibration and operational configurations.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and in line with health and safety legislation, electrical standards and company procedures.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, fault logs and equipment documentation.
  • Provide technical support and training to operational teams and machine users.
  • Liaise with equipment manufacturers, contractors and suppliers to support repairs, upgrades and ongoing maintenance.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to equipment reliability, maintenance processes and operational performance.
  • Participate in out-of-hours breakdown support and assist with wider engineering and facilities tasks as required.
  • Recognised electrical qualification (e.g. NVQ/City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installation or equivalent), or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience maintaining, repairing and fault-finding on industrial or automated machinery.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, motors, sensors, control panels and electrical systems.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills across electrical, mechanical and control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams and equipment manuals.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, managers and external contractors.
  • Commitment to safe working practices and the ability to work in a production environment.
  • Full, valid driving licence.
