Mainframe Developer

Role & responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, JCL, and VSAM.
• Develop and maintain online transaction processing (OLTP) applications using CICS to support real-time business transactions.
• Create and modify CICS programs, transaction definitions, maps, and screens to support business requirements.
• Develop, debug, and maintain COBOL programs for business logic, batch processing, and transaction processing.
• Develop and maintain JCL jobs to execute batch programs, manage datasets, and automate scheduled processing.
• Work with VSAM datasets, including KSDS, ESDS, and RRDS, to store, retrieve, update, and maintain application data.
• Integrate COBOL programs with CICS transactions and VSAM files for online data processing.
• Develop batch jobs to process large volumes of data and generate business reports and output files.
• Perform debugging, abend analysis, root-cause analysis, and production issue resolution.
• Analyze job logs, spool output, and system messages to identify and resolve batch processing failures.
• Optimize COBOL programs, CICS transactions, and JCL jobs to improve performance and processing efficiency.

Preferred candidate profile

• Strong hands-on experience with CICS (Customer Information Control System) for developing and maintaining online transaction processing applications.
• Proficiency in COBOL programming, including data divisions, procedure division, file handling, tables, arrays, and copybooks.
• Experience developing and maintaining CICS programs, transaction definitions, maps, and screen handling.
• Understanding of CICS commands such as EXEC CICS SEND, EXEC CICS RECEIVE, EXEC CICS READ, EXEC CICS WRITE, and EXEC CICS RETURN.
• Knowledge of pseudo-conversational transaction design, COMMAREA, and channels and containers.
• Strong understanding of JCL, including JOB, EXEC, DD statements, procedures, and parameter passing.
• Experience working with VSAM datasets, including KSDS, ESDS, and RRDS, and performing file access operations.
• Knowledge of batch processing, job scheduling, dataset allocation, and job dependency management.
• Experience with COBOL-CICS integration and online transaction debugging.
