Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications:
Join our Virginia Beach Convention Center Maintenance Team where you'll have the opportunity to showcase your expertise in Heating & Air Conditioning while, diagnosing, and repairing a diverse range of systems.
As a Maintenance Engineer I – HVAC, you will:
- Typically work Monday -Friday 7:00 AM -3:30 PM with rotating weekend shifts, some holidays and schedule adjustments based on schedule of events and emergency needs. You will need the ability to have a flexible schedule.
- Br responsible for the daily operation of the mechanical plant and associated HVAC systems at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to HVAC equipment and related equipment such as air handlers chillers boilers pumps and motors.
- Perform inspections and provides necessary reporting and recommendations.
- Requisition necessary parts, materials supplies and equipment from Facilities maintenance manager.
- Maintain oversight of related contractors and checks work for compliance.
- Oversee full time and part time assigned personnel when necessary.
- Assist electricians and carpenters as assigned.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external clients.

The ideal candidate will have:
- Commercial HVAC maintenance and repair experience
- Experience with direct digital controls
Additional desired skills:
- Knowledge of heating systems such as gas, oil, electric furnace, and boilers
- Knowledge of water systems, distribution, valves, pumps, strainers, and all related items
- Ability to use computers for troubleshooting and diagnosing HVAC system problems
- Knowledge of commercial chiller operation and maintenance

Minimum Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications: Requires high school or GED plus five (5) years’ experience, in fields related to heating and air conditioning which provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, and associated with such positions as Heating and Cooling Plant Operator, Heating/ Air Conditioning/ Refrigeration Mechanic, or HVAC Maintenance Supervisor. Journeyman HVAC license required. Must have a current and valid driver’s license. Preferences Universal Refrigeration Certificate. Master HVAC license. Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination. Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the City’s operational status.
