Maintenance Engineer

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and improving maintenance operations to maximize equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and support efficient manufacturing operations. This role focuses on equipment reliability, preventive and predictive maintenance programs, capital improvement projects, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Maintenance Engineer partners with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering teams to analyze equipment performance, implement corrective actions, and drive long-term reliability improvements.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and continuously improves preventive and predictive maintenance programs for manufacturing equipment.
  • Analyzes equipment performance, downtime trends, and maintenance data to identify opportunities for improving reliability and efficiency.
  • Leads root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and implements corrective and preventive actions to reduce recurring equipment failures.
  • Develops maintenance strategies that improve equipment uptime, reliability, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Coordinates maintenance projects, equipment upgrades, and facility improvement initiatives.
  • Develops equipment standards, maintenance procedures, job plans, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Reviews and optimizes preventive maintenance frequencies based on equipment performance and historical maintenance data.
  • Monitors maintenance KPIs, including downtime, MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), MTTR (Mean Time to Repair), and maintenance costs.
  • Supports the installation, commissioning, and qualification of new production equipment and manufacturing systems.
  • Works closely with Maintenance Supervisor and Technicians to provide technical guidance on complex equipment issues.
  • Coordinates with equipment manufacturers, contractors, and vendors for equipment repairs, upgrades, and technical support.
  • Leads improvement projects focused on equipment reliability, productivity, energy efficiency, and cost reduction.
  • Ensures maintenance operations comply with OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and company safety standards.
  • Participates in safety audits, risk assessments, and equipment hazard analyses.
  • Prepares technical reports, engineering documentation, maintenance analyses, and project updates for management.
  • Mentors Associate Maintenance Engineers and Maintenance Technicians by providing technical guidance and engineering support.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
  • Five (5) years of maintenance engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment, reliability engineering, and maintenance planning.
  • Strong knowledge of preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance practices.
  • Understanding of industrial mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems.
  • Knowledge of reliability analysis tools such as RCFA, FMEA, MTBF, and MTTR.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience using engineering software, data analysis tools, and reporting systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to frequently walk throughout the manufacturing facility to inspect equipment and support maintenance activities.
  • Ability to occasionally climb ladders, access elevated platforms, and inspect equipment in production areas.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when entering manufacturing areas.
