Maintenance Supervisor - Fabrication (51575)
Gradian is an engineering-led, full-line thermal solutions partner serving data center and other mission-critical, commercial, and industrial markets. Headquartered in Maple Grove, MN, with additional facilities across North America, we design and manufacture liquid cooling systems, air handling equipment, heat rejection units, and modular, factory-assembled thermal management solutions.
Gradian was founded through the unification of four complementary, established brands: MAS HVAC, Daedex, DeepCoolAI, and EcoChillers. Together, we act as a single-source provider, deploying cooling technologies as scalable systems optimized for efficiency, spatial constraints, and overall performance. With a vertically integrated engineering and manufacturing model, we pair rapid design turnaround with precision fabrication, so customers can move faster on complex projects where reliability, timeline, and quality all matter.
Why work here
At Gradian, you'll work alongside others who get genuinely fired up by complex problems, see your work go from first sketch to job site in weeks, not years, and know that while we're developing the technologies critical for AI infrastructure to scale, our culture remains people-first by design.
It is core to our identity that we operate as one team — driving to win together, energizing others, and building lasting relationships that make the work fun and rewarding.
Position Summary:
The Maintenance Supervisor – Fabrication serves as the technical backbone of Gradian’s Dayton plant fabrication department, ensuring fiber lasers, press brakes, copper fabrication equipment, pipe processing tools, brazing stations, and electrical panel assembly lines run safely, reliably, and at full capacity. As a working supervisor, you will personally diagnose and resolve complex equipment failures, provide direct technical leadership to a team of electricians and maintenance technicians, and build the planned maintenance discipline that reduces how often equipment fails in the first place. You will be the department’s go-to technical resource — on the floor solving problems as often as you’re planning the week’s work. This position will report to Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide hands-on technical leadership to a team of electricians and maintenance technicians, prioritizing daily work based on maintenance work orders for production impact and urgency
- Serve as the primary technical resource for complex equipment failures, personally diagnosing and resolving issues on fiber lasers, press brakes, copper benders, copper saw, T-drill, water pipe cutter/groover, brazing equipment, and electrical panel assembly lines to restore production quickly
- Partner with Continuous Improvement Manager and develop, implement, and continuously mature a planned/preventive maintenance program, shifting the department’s workload from reactive firefighting toward proactive reliability
- Manage spare parts inventory for critical equipment, ensuring long-lead-time components (laser optics, press brake parts) are on hand to prevent extended downtime
- Coordinate with OEM service technicians and outside vendors for specialized equipment service, calibration, and repairs beyond the team’s in-house capability
- Enforce compliance with applicable electrical codes (NEC, NFPA 70E) and lockout-tagout procedures across all maintenance and electrical work
- Train, coach, and mentor electricians and technicians on specialized equipment, eliminating single points of failure on critical machines
- Triage and respond to maintenance requests from production, balancing urgency against planned work to protect overall equipment reliability
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and equipment history within the maintenance management system
- Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Production leadership on root cause analysis and corrective action for recurring equipment failures
- Assess equipment condition and recommend capital investment for replacement, upgrades, or critical spares
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required; vocational/technical certification in industrial maintenance, electrical, or a related trade preferred
- 5+ years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience, including work on CNC or fabrication equipment (lasers, press brakes, or similar)
- 2+ years in a lead or supervisory maintenance capacity
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including panel/controls wiring and schematic interpretation
- Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Experience with Maintenance management system platforms for work order and PM management
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and electrical codes (NEC, NFPA 70E)
Preferred:
- Experience specifically with fiber laser cutting systems and CNC press brakes
- Experience with copper tube fabrication and brazing processes (HVAC/refrigeration background a strong plus)
- Associate’s degree in industrial maintenance technology or related field
- Experience troubleshooting PLCs and industrial controls
- Experience in a growing or scaling manufacturing environment
Key Competencies:
- Hands-on technical problem-solving under time pressure
- Prioritization and triage across competing demands
- Team leadership and technical mentorship
- Safety-first mindset, particularly around electrical and high-voltage equipment
- Disciplined follow-through on planned maintenance commitments
- Clear communication across production, engineering, and the maintenance team
Benefits:
- Medical, vision, and dental plans
- Short-term and long-term disability insurance
- Group term life insurance coverage
- HSA, FSA, and Dependent Care plans available
- 8 paid holidays, 4 floating holidays, and generous PTO policy
- 401k matching
- Company paid events
- Annual safety shoe allowance
- Education assistance program
