Discussion

Sion Power, the global leader in the development of a new generation of high-energy rechargeable lithium batteries for portable power, is currently searching for a Maintenance Technician to be based at its research and development facility in Tucson, Arizona. Sion's exciting new technology package yields a battery system with the highest theoretical gravimetric and volumetric energy densities of any battery and offers significant improvements in performance over current rechargeable batteries.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and continuous operation of site facilities and critical building systems. Approximately 75% of this position will focus on the inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the site's cooling, HVAC, and dehumidification systems, which support temperature- and humidity-controlled manufacturing and laboratory environments.

The remaining 25% of the position will support general facility maintenance activities as assigned by the Facilities Manager.

This position requires a hands-on technician who can identify equipment problems early, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems, coordinate repairs when specialized vendor support is required, and help minimize interruptions to site operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Cooling, HVAC & Dehumidification Systems – 75%

  • Perform routine inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of site cooling, HVAC, and dehumidification equipment.
  • Monitor equipment condition and performance to identify abnormal operation before equipment failure or loss of environmental control.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, airflow, temperature, humidity, sensor, control, and equipment alarm issues.
  • Support systems serving temperature- and humidity-controlled manufacturing, laboratory, and dry-room environments.
  • Inspect and maintain components such as filters, belts, motors, bearings, fans, coils, condensate systems, pumps, valves, dampers, sensors, and related equipment.
  • Assist with troubleshooting building automation and HVAC control systems, including temperature and relative-humidity sensors and alarms.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance according to manufacturer recommendations and the site's preventive maintenance program.
  • Document inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, equipment conditions, and identified deficiencies.
  • Respond to cooling, humidity, and HVAC equipment alarms or operational concerns and assist with restoring systems to normal operating conditions.
  • Identify recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective or preventive maintenance improvements.
  • Coordinate with HVAC, controls, refrigeration, and other specialty contractors when repairs exceed internal capabilities.
  • Support equipment commissioning, upgrades, replacements, and facility improvement projects.
  • Maintain critical spare parts and notify the Facilities Manager when replacement parts, consumables, or contractor support are needed.
  • Follow applicable electrical safety and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements when servicing equipment.

General Facility Maintenance – 25%

  • Perform general preventive and corrective facility maintenance as assigned by the Facilities Manager.
  • Complete basic repairs involving plumbing, lighting, doors, hardware, fixtures, pumps, motors, and other facility equipment.
  • Support maintenance activities throughout manufacturing, laboratories, warehouse, office, and exterior areas.
  • Assist with contractor activities and facility improvement projects.
  • Respond to maintenance work orders and document completed work.
  • Assist with inspections and identification of facility deficiencies.
  • Maintain maintenance tools, equipment, parts, and work areas in a safe and organized condition.
  • Support emergency and after-hours facility response when required.
