Job Description Summary
The Maintenance Worker I, under supervision, maintains buildings and equipment for assigned department.
Responsibilities
Performs preventative maintenance, repairs and service work on machinery, equipment and fixtures.
Performs skilled trade work including painting, carpentry, plumbing, plastering, cementing and electrical work. Performs electrical and acetylene welding, brazing and soldering.
Moves heavy equipment and assists in special set-ups.
Operates machinery such as drill press, sharpeners, table saws, chain saws, lawn mowers, edgers, weed eaters and other miscellaneous equipment.
Repairs sidewalks, sewer lines, building slabs, streets and related installations.
Assists in preparing floors and occasionally replaces broken or missing tile. Finishes and repairs furniture as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
One year of related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent oral, written, and electronic communication skills.
Ability to effectively use personal computer to communicate, prepare proposals to include cost information on spreadsheet as applicable, and provide reports of activities.
Ability to effectively communicate with faculty, students and staff.
