Summary

Builds and maintains donor relationships to secure major gifts and philanthropic support for a homelessness prevention nonprofit using fundraising strategies and donor engagement.

The mission of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is to work collaboratively toward the prevention of homelessness and the creation of lasting solutions for homeless and at-risk families, children, and individuals throughout Colorado. The Coalition advocates for and provides a continuum of housing and a variety of services to improve the health, well-being, and stability of those it serves.

The Major Gifts Officer builds meaningful relationships with donors and prospective donors to inspire philanthropic support for the Coalition’s mission and impact in the community. Through strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, this role manages a portfolio of donors, develops individualized engagement strategies, and advances annual fundraising goals.

Additional Requirement

  • Valid driver’s license required. This requirement may be waived, if necessary, based on overall candidate experience and current needs of the business and/or role.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develops and implements individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies that strengthen donor relationships, secure major gifts, and increase philanthropic support.
  • Manages a portfolio of assigned major gift donors and qualified prospects, prioritizing meaningful engagement and long-term relationship development.
  • Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards current and prospective donors through all stages of the donor lifecycle.
  • Meets established fundraising, portfolio management, and donor engagement goals through strategic relationship management and donor-centered fundraising practices.
  • Partners with the Vice President of Philanthropy, executive leadership, program staff, and volunteers to build internal relationships, identify funding opportunities, and align donor interests with organizational priorities.
  • Prepares gift proposals, stewardship reports, briefing materials, correspondence, and other communications that support donor engagement and successful solicitations.
  • Represents the organization at donor meetings, cultivation events, community events, and other external engagements to strengthen relationships and increase philanthropic support.
  • Collaborates with Philanthropy team members to support departmental fundraising strategies, donor engagement initiatives, and achievement of annual fundraising goals.
  • Maintains accurate and timely donor records, contact reports, proposals, and related activity in the donor database while ensuring timely and accurate use of all company systems as required and supporting future system upgrades as directed.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications Summary

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain authentic relationships with donors, leadership, volunteers, and internal stakeholders to advance organizational priorities.
  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience managing donor relationships, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift donors or qualified prospects.
  • Proven track record of successfully securing philanthropic support for general operations, programs, and/or special projects through effective donor engagement and solicitation strategies.
  • Ability to independently manage a portfolio of donors, develop and execute fundraising strategies, and achieve established goals while collaborating with internal partners.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from accredited college or university or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in a professional fund development role with demonstrated success in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
