Mammography Technologist Registered
POSITION SUMMARY
Performs mammographic examinations including special procedure examinations under the direction of the department supervisor and radiologist.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Graduate of an approved radiologic technology program.
Experience:
- Preference given to those with mammography and bone density experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Demonstrates the ability to function as a team member and to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with patients, staff members and physicians.
License/Certification/Registration:
- Registered with the ARRT-Mammography in good standing and maintain compliance with continuing education requirements.
- Maintains ACR requirements of 200 mammograms every two years and 15 CEC in mammography every three years.
- Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.
- Registered with the ARRT in Bone Density preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs patient care/technical duties in an accurate and timely fashion.
- Greets each patient in a pleasant manner.
- Verifies patient identification using two (2) identifiers: Full name and DOB.
- Prepares and positions patients for requested examination.
- Evaluates for correctness and modifies in Meditech if necessary.
- Assists the Radiologist during procedures.
- Operates digital mammography.
- Operates stereotactic biopsy equipment.
- Operates bone density machine.
- Knowledge of US units and ability to trouble shoot issues if needed.
- Prepares pharmaceuticals for use and properly labels syringes.
- Documents necessary information and “time out” process on requests and in Meditech.
- Performs other related technical and/or patient care duties as assigned.
- Keeps work area clean, orderly, and stocked.
- Cleans machines after each use according to manufacturer recommendation and leaves room ready for next patient.
- Completes daily duties assigned to tech rotation by end of shift.
- Enters necessary and correct information in to PenRad.
- Ensures all charges are taken and correct at the end of the shift.
- Knows how to handle and prepare specimens for Pathology.
- Sends instruments to Sterile Processing and completes necessary paperwork.
- Maintains inventory levels.
- Ensures proper level of inventory by:
- Monitoring levels of supplies and notifying QC technologist or supervisor when supplies are low.
- Reports equipment failures or problems to proper service engineer and QA/QC Mammographer.
- Complies with and performs assigned quality control activities accurately and timely.
- Communicates any equipment or staff problems to supervisor when necessary.
- Ensures proper level of inventory by:
- Knows how to search PACS for patient images and send to radiologist workstation.
- Has understanding of departmental computer systems, including Meditech, PACS, and PenRad.
- Escorts patients within the department.
- Understands general office duties.
- Assists in scheduling of patients to optimize efficiency of department.
- Cooperates in efforts to coordinate the work activities with other technical staff.
- Assists with new and/or difficult setups.
- Participates in the departmental orientation and educational programs with other employees.
- Enforces the hospital and departmental policies daily and reports any discrepancies to supervisor.
