The mission of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) is to provide the fullest possible accounting for missing personnel from the Nation's past conflicts to their families and the Nation. DPAA personnel research, investigate, recover, and identify remains of DoW personnel unaccounted for from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, the Persian Gulf War, and Iraq conflicts. The Director, DPAA (SES-III), reports to the USW for Personnel and Readiness (USW(P&R)).

Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Provides expert advice and assistance to the Agency Director, DPAA Medical Examiner, Scientific Analysis (SA) Director, Laboratory Directors, DPAA Staff Directors and/or Deputies, and Case Managers regarding case resolution. May coordinate with foreign government Agencies regarding DNA FRS collection kits, protocols, data sharing and methods. Identifies the need for special projects and sets requirements, milestones, resources and desired outcomes. Evaluates reports by analyzing facts and performing appropriate research and prepares detailed responses.
