Management Support Specialist

The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Museum Learning and Programs, National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI), Smithsonian Institution (SI). The SI is a museum and research complex dedicated to the increase and diffusion of knowledge.

The Management Support Specialist is responsible for the development and implementation of public programs at the NMAI-Washington, DC and NMAI-NY. In this position, you will Identify plans and produce Native themed public programs for the NMAI's Museum Programs group. Ensure that all internal and administrative requirements related to assigned/developed programs are carried out. Write materials for programs, press releases and other materials to inform the public, media, staff and targeted communities of upcoming public programs. Exercise a great deal of initiative and independence and based on a broad base of experience and identifies, develops and maintains a broad spectrum of contacts within Washington area venues and affiliations with non- Smithsonian museums and cultural organizations. (especially Native communities and institutions around the US and internationally) to ascertain and nurture their interest in and participation with NMAI through co-sponsoring or hosting programs with and at NMAI.
