Manager 3, Software Engineering - Tax Platform
Intuit's Tax Platform organization builds the engines, runtime, and APIs that power tax preparation for millions of customers, an ecosystem where reliability, accuracy, and speed are inseparable from trust. We're looking for a Manager 3, Engineering to lead the teams that own our tax engines, tax runtime platforms, and Tax Prep APIs, and to help scale a growing set of Agentic AI Platform capabilities into that same foundation.
In this impactful and foundational role, you'll lead a group of managers, engineers, and a combined team of 30+ engineers, setting technical direction and talent strategy across multiple teams and capability areas. You'll operate on a one- to three-year horizon: aligning Product, Design, and Engineering leaders on a shared portfolio vision, driving measurable improvements in reliability, performance, and productivity, and ensuring the platform can absorb the pace of change coming from AI-driven development without compromising the compliance and correctness bar that tax systems demand.
You'll be expected to lead as an AI-native leader: partnering with platform teams to drive adoption of Intuit's AI/GenAI paved roads, embedding AI into how your teams build and ship, and contributing improvements back to shared platforms so the rest of the engineering organization benefits from what your teams learn.
Responsibilities
- Own the multi-year technical vision and roadmap across tax engines, tax runtime platforms, and Tax Prep APIs, aligning architecture decisions to deliver cohesive, scalable systems rather than team-by-team optimizations
- Partner with product, AI, and experience leaders across the enterprise to shape the strategy for extending the platform to support Agentic AI capabilities
- Co-own architecture reviews with Principal Engineers and other technical leaders; ensure technical roadmaps connect engineering priorities to company strategy and customer impact
- Manage, coach, and develop a team of engineering managers; build their capability to lead through delegation, not just direct execution
- Build and scale leadership and talent systems across the org: hiring plans, succession planning, mentorship, and performance calibration for both managers and senior ICs
- Set a high-performance bar with disciplined management practices, building a durable leadership pipeline beneath you
- Define strategies for growing AI skills across your teams and lead your managers to run AI-native teams effectively
- Own customer outcomes across the tax engine, runtime, and API portfolio; connect insights across these capabilities to anticipate needs rather than react to them
- Partner with Product, Design, and Support peers to resolve systemic, cross-team friction points affecting tax prep quality, accuracy, or performance
- Represent the tax platform org in cross-functional and leadership planning, balancing platform investment against product delivery timelines
- Lead execution across multiple teams and capabilities, translating strategy into scalable delivery systems and resolving cross-team dependencies
- Own operational discipline for tax-critical systems: reliability, on-call health, incident response, and post-incident learning, given the compliance stakes of tax computation and filing
- Prioritize ruthlessly across teams and capabilities to allocate engineering capacity for maximum customer impact
- Lead practices for coding, testing, resiliency, security, and compliance across complex, multi-capability systems
- Drive adoption of Intuit's AI/GenAI paved roads across your teams; embed AI into products, platforms, and development processes to deliver measurable results, and contribute improvements back to shared platforms
Qualifications
Required
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years of people leadership, with a track record of managing managers (not only individual contributors)
- Demonstrated experience leading engineering strategy across multiple teams or capability areas simultaneously, operating on a one- to three-year planning horizon
- Experience owning technical direction and architecture for complex, distributed systems or platforms at scale
- Track record of building leadership pipelines: hiring, developing, and retaining engineering managers and senior ICs, with real succession outcomes
- Applied experience partnering with platform teams to drive AI/GenAI adoption and embedding AI into products, platforms, and development processes
- Experience owning operational excellence (reliability, on-call, incident response) for business-critical, tier-1 systems
- Strong track record of cross-functional influence with Product, Design, and Program leadership to resolve systemic, cross-team friction and align delivery
Preferred
- Experience in the tax domain or another highly regulated/compliance-sensitive industry
- Direct experience with agentic AI tooling or infrastructure (e.g., MCP-based systems, agentic coding tools, etc.)
- Experience contributing to shared/internal platforms used broadly across an engineering organization, not just within a single team's scope
- Contributions to open source, patents, or industry engagement that reflect engineering credibility beyond your immediate org
