Manager, Actuarial / Pricing Manager

Location: Madrid Spain

The Opportunity:

The Pricing Manager, Europe organizes and manages a team of six entry- to senior-level staff who support pricing and underwriting activity across the Europe region. They provide analysis and reporting to support Assurant in achieving its goals related to revenue and profitability targets. The Pricing Manager, Europe reports to the Chief Actuary, Europe.

• Pricing Support: Supports the regional commercial teams in providing technical pricing input for all new business tenders and contract extensions across Europe. Proactively balances priorities in accordance with commercial opportunities.
• Performance Monitoring: Raises technical capabilities to support the development of a structured, automated, forward-looking approach to portfolio management, providing regular insights and recommended actions, to enable timely business decisions. Advocates for modern solutions, applied consistently across the region. Designs and creates standard reports including client reviews, frequency/severity reports, early warning reports, etc.
• Data and Technology: Has awareness of various source systems, and how the data is stored and accessed. Provides insight into the design, development, and maintenance of new administration and financial systems impacting Actuarial. Identifies opportunities to leverage advancing technologies that can improve data quality and systems efficiency, producing deeper analysis, enhancing visualization and business reporting and eliminating data issues.
• Modeling and Deal Structuring: Acts as a technical reviewer of pricing models and assumptions. Asks probing questions about sources and reliability of assumptions. Provides thought leadership by proposing deal structures that balance profitability, commercial viability, and management of business risks.
• People Leadership: Creates tactical goal plans that will help reach department’s overall strategic goals. Balances resourcing between immediate commercial needs and longer-term development. Ensures performance feedback is documented & cascaded timely. Supports staff in their own development and seeks out opportunities to widen their experience. Connects staff to the wider business.
• General: Serves as SME on cross functional teams to bring actuarial support to business strategy scope. Evaluates and continuously modifies and improves Actuarial processes and procedures to improve operating performance and productivity. Articulates employee performance standards and periodically reviews these standards with their teams. Contributes to the wider (global) Actuarial department.
• Regulatory Reporting: Manages team deliverables related to the completion of Actuarial portions of statutory/local reporting for various lines of business, such as the Underwriting Opinion under Solvency II and Fair Value Assessments in the UK.
• Financial Planning/Forecasting: Completes actuarial deliverables in support of the planning processes related to attritional loss ratio selections, earnings patterns, etc.

Education: Remains compliant with continuing education requirements. Stays abreast of advances in the field(s) of Actuarial Science and insurance, and data. Understands the marketplace in which Assurant operates. Applies this knowledge to responsibilities
