Manager and Senior Advisor, Bus
Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. The Office of the Vice President, Bus Operations is seeking a dynamic leader to provide advice on Bus Operations and Bus Fleet maintenance programs and policies, and to effectively support the VP, Bus Operations and the VP, Bus Fleet Maintenance.
This role is based out of Steeprock Garage in North York and requires to work from the office 5 days a week.
What will I be doing?
- Provide oversight to the day-to-day operation of the Office of the VP, Bus Operations and VP Bus Fleet Maintenance.
- Provide strategic advice and briefings to both VP’s. in support of and in advancement of policy and program issues; identifies and manages sensitive, high profile and complex issues with potential policy implications and program impact.
- Communicate strategically to frontline staff and to all levels of senior management.
- Engage and motivate staff to perform exceptionally in delivering key Bus Operations and Bus Fleet programs.
- Manage the preparation and delivery of quarterly Corporate Board of Directors and Committee and Subcommittee reporting.
- Review and analyzes communications and documents prior to dissemination to ensure consistency as well as good quality and flow of information.
- Provides oversight to engagement strategy, development of VP, Bus Operations and Bus Fleet. communications to staff and helps coordinate activities including townhalls and coffee chats.
- Manage and coordinates a wide range of program/policy files, working files, project communications and executive support tasks.
- Support business planning function for all deliverables of the VP, Bus and Fleet operations and executives within the Operations portfolio.
- Provide leadership, coaching and motivation to employees in their work processes and ensures they are equipped with the necessary tools.
- Establish relationships and works with cross functional teams, advisory committees, business unit Senior Management and stakeholders.
- Establish, maintains and monitors processes, controls and measures to ensure fiscal responsibility; provides executive management with regular status and financial and quarterly reports.
- Participate in the preparation and selection of procurement for 3rd party service providers/vendors.
- Willing to travel to different locations and Bus Garages to ensure that a full understanding of the business and support any/all issues that may need to be reported.
- Willing to work at times different hours as Bus and Fleet Services is a 24/7 Operation and flexibility will be essential in being able to understand the demands and requirements of the businesses.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, or related field or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Demonstrated years of experience (including people leadership experience) ideally in the public sector, developing communications materials; managing complex and sensitive issues/tasks, special projects, timely flow of information along with stakeholder interaction/consultation.
- Knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of communications planning, issues management and public relations.
- Knowledge of government policy development and decision-making processes.
- Strong relationship management, influencing/negotiating skills and political acuity.
- Ability to communicate strategically to frontline staff and all levels of management.
- Exceptional analytical and research skills and ability to provide strategic advice.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral/written/presentation).
- Planning, organizational and project management skills are essential.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong understanding of safety best practices.
