Description

Manager China Sourcing Supplier Development

Your role
Key responsibilities in your new role

  • Create and apply a structured supplier assessment approach covering technical capability, manufacturing processes, quality systems, capacity, equipment, sub-tier management, supply continuity, EHS/compliance, financial/commercial robustness and management commitment.
  • Conduct supplier pre-screening and capability reviews using questionnaires, document reviews, interviews, site visits and cross-functional assessments; clearly identify strengths, gaps, risks and development needs.
  • Establish category-appropriate assessment criteria and scoring logic together with Sourcing, Quality and Engineering so that supplier comparisons are objective, traceable and aligned with business requirements.
  • Coordinate the roadmap from initial feasibility through samples/prototypes, process validation, quality approval, reliability or performance verification, pilot supply and final sourcing/production approval as applicable.
  • Align supplier development priorities and timing with sourcing strategies, localization targets, project schedules and business needs; identify long-lead activities and dependencies early.
  • Plan and coordinate supplier audits with relevant functions, including process, quality-system, capacity, EHS, technology or business-continuity audits according to supplier/category risk.
  • Ensure audit findings are classified by severity and supported by clear evidence, expectations, owners and closure dates.
  • Drive suppliers to perform structured root-cause analysis and implement effective corrective and preventive actions, using appropriate problem-solving methods such as 5 Why, fishbone, 8D or equivalent.
  • Validate corrective-action effectiveness through document review, data evidence, follow-up audit or on-site verification before closure of critical findings.
  • Define ramp-up readiness criteria together with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Planning and Sourcing, including quality, yield, capacity, lead time, delivery, documentation and contingency expectations.
  • Coordinate controlled ramp-up from pilot or limited-volume supply to stable production, using agreed milestones and increased monitoring during the early production phase.
  • Ensure suppliers demonstrate sustainable process capability and stable controls before recommending transition to normal supplier-management routines.
  • Facilitate regular cross-functional supplier development reviews and provide concise visibility of qualification progress, gaps, actions, risks and escalation needs.
  • Capture lessons learned, standardize assessment/audit/qualification templates and improve supplier-development methods across the China sourcing team.
  • Ensure supplier-development activities comply with procurement policies, quality requirements, ethical standards, EHS expectations, confidentiality/IP requirements and applicable legal or trade controls.
