As the Manager, Claims Portfolio – Accident Benefits, you are a key member of the National Claims Team responsible for the application of portfolio management to lead competitive excellence in managing our claims costs and provide exemplary stewardship of our clients’ premiums. You will apply business acumen to lead the identification of national claims opportunities and obstacles and collaborate to lead the development of solutions and strategies with a holistic view. You will be responsible for conveying directions on portfolio projects and utilizing the descriptive analytics available to drive innovations, change, strategies, and tactics, to ensure the success of the claims portfolio. As an expert storyteller, you will communicate, socialize, the claims portfolio story, and build strategic relationships with various business partners, internally and externally.

How you will create impact:

  • Leading comprehensive management of the Accident Benefits claims portfolio by leveraging analytics, storytelling, and collaborate to identify trends, develop strategic solutions, and drive operational improvements in claims processes and compliance.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of policies, performance metrics, and reporting dashboards, delivering actionable insights to optimize decision-making, achieve key performance indicators, and influence the direction of claims initiatives across the organization.
  • Monitoring, analyzing, and communicate claims operational performance by leveraging descriptive analytics and storytelling to proactively identify trends, risks, and root causes; develop actionable recommendations, establish key performance metrics, and support claims leaders with dashboards and self-service tools to optimize decision-making and drive strategic progress.
  • Leading and inspire high-performing claims teams by fostering a positive, client-focused culture, aligning operations with strategic objectives, and developing talent to support organizational growth and industry leadership.
  • Ensuring compliance with company, government, and legislative standards by executing operational policies and procedures, developing corrective action plans, and collaborating with stakeholders.
  • Coaching and developing your team, recruiting and selecting talent, managing and rewarding performance, and fostering an agile culture to deliver on strategic objectives.

To join our team:

  • You have 6 – 9 years in claims management experience or related insurance experience, with strong portfolio management at national level.
  • You have 5 years’ experience demonstrating dynamic leadership at a national level.
  • You have specialized knowledge and experience required of Accident Benefits claims discipline.
  • You have or are working towards the Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) or Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP).
  • You have extensive knowledge of using descriptive indicators in monitoring, identifying, and improving claims discipline performance.
  • You have working knowledge of statistical methods and claims management dashboards.
  • You have the authority to make decisions independently on all aspects of the work or projects that have significant impact.
  • This position primarily works with majority non-francophone groups, and teams located outside of Québec, and requires proficiency in English. The essential non-French duties are not assignable to adjacent or other team members.

  • You are required to have your own vehicle, valid driver’s license and insurance.
  • Extended work hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required.

Salary information

Expected salary range $91,058 - $151,764 (min-max, full range).

Salary placement

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.

Incentive/Variable pay

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
