Work Environment
This is a hybrid role with a mix of remote work and field involvement. Candidates should reside within one hour of a commercial airport to support travel requirements (up to 30%).
What You'll Get to Do
As Manager, Electrical Engineering at Echo Power, you lead a team of engineers designing and analyzing electrical power systems ranging from 480V through 15kV, and you are accountable for every project on the team's board. This is electrical power engineering, meaning power distribution, generation support, and power system analysis, not communications, data, or other limited-energy systems. An active Professional Engineer (PE) license is required to be considered for this role.
This is a decision-maker's seat. You make the technical calls, approve the engineering, assign the people, set the priorities, and answer for the team delivering on its commitments. You will travel to project sites to kick off work and ensure your team is moving in the right direction, partnering with Engineering Delivery Managers who run the schedules and delivery process while you own the engineering behind them.
This is also a working leadership role. Your primary job is to review, decide, and develop your people, and when projects demand it, you will step in and execute design work alongside your team. Staying technically sharp is a requirement of the seat, not an option.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and develop a team of engineers, including performance management, professional development, personnel assignments, and workload priorities.
- Own engineering quality across all team projects; hold final technical decision and engineering approval authority for the team's work.
- Ensure engineers make realistic delivery commitments and fulfill them, in partnership with Engineering Delivery Managers who own project schedules, status reporting, and the delivery process.
- Own team budgets, forecasting, and financial decisions in coordination with engineering leadership.
- Review electrical power system design work, drawing sets, and engineering packages to Echo's standards; execute design work directly when project needs require.
- Serve as a technical authority on power system studies, reviewing and validating SKM models, methods, and results (arc flash, short-circuit, coordination) produced by the team.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, and AHJ requirements, making the engineering judgment calls where standards conflict or are silent.
- Travel to project sites to lead kickoffs, direct field data collection efforts, and confirm the team's execution approach.
- Resolve staffing, technical, and departmental blockers within your authority; escalate what falls outside it.
- Mentor engineers, designers, and drafters, developing their design judgment and standards fluency.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- 10+ years of recent experience in electrical power system design (480V through 15kV), including power system studies as an integrated part of the design process.
- Formal people-management experience, including performance management and development of engineering staff.
- Expert knowledge of NEC and NFPA standards, with the depth to serve as the authoritative interpreter for the team.
- Expert-level command of SKM modeling, analysis, and validation, sufficient to review, challenge, and stand behind study work performed by others.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, SKM Power Tools, Microsoft Office, and similar engineering software.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
- Self-motivated, with the drive to own work independently in a remote environment while supporting field operations.
- Ability to travel up to 30% throughout the United States.
Strongly Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting healthcare, utility, industrial, or mission-critical facilities.
- Working knowledge of NFPA 99, NFPA 110, and NEC Article 517 for healthcare facility work.
- Experience working directly with utilities, contractors, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $131,521 – $190,500 annually (based on education and experience)
