Manager, Engineering
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Manager, Engineering based in India.
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead software development initiatives while supporting a team of engineers in delivering reliable, high-quality solutions. You will oversee projects from planning through execution, ensuring priorities, timelines, resources, and business objectives remain aligned. Acting as a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders, you will help translate goals into actionable engineering plans and remove obstacles that affect delivery. The role combines technical leadership, project management, people development, and operational responsibility. You will coach and mentor engineers, provide meaningful performance feedback, and contribute to hiring and team growth. Accountabilities:
You will oversee engineering initiatives while creating the structure, support, and leadership needed for teams to execute effectively and continuously develop their capabilities.
- Oversee software development projects and track initiatives to ensure timely and successful delivery.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned project initiatives and coordinate progress across stakeholders.
- Communicate project objectives, priorities, expectations, and delivery requirements clearly to engineering teams.
- Act as a bridge between business stakeholders and software development teams, ensuring alignment between technical execution and organizational goals.
- Identify and remove roadblocks that could impact team productivity or project delivery.
- Collaborate with other departments to coordinate dependencies and achieve shared business outcomes.
- Engage regularly with direct reports to provide coaching, mentoring, guidance, and professional development support.
- Provide ongoing performance feedback and conduct formal annual performance evaluations.
- Mentor and develop entry- and mid-level software developers, helping strengthen technical capabilities and career progression.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and team-building activities.
- Contribute to hiring strategies and execute recruitment activities in accordance with applicable laws and internal policies.
- Support compensation management and provide input on team-related decisions.
- Manage engineering activities within established budgets and authorization limits.
- Contribute to budgeting and resource planning for future fiscal periods.
- Promote effective engineering practices, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Travel occasionally as required.
- 10+ years of software development experience and/or relevant technical training.
- At least 2 years of experience in leadership, training, mentoring, or people management.
- University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related scientific or technical discipline is preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and professional experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing software development projects and coordinating delivery across teams.
- Strong understanding of software development processes and engineering project management.
- Ability to communicate technical goals and expectations clearly to engineering teams and business stakeholders.
- Proven ability to remove delivery obstacles and keep teams focused on priorities.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multiple organizational departments.
- Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing software engineers at different levels.
- Ability to provide constructive performance feedback and support employee development.
- Experience supporting recruitment, onboarding, and team growth is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment.
- Strong business judgment and awareness of budgets, resources, and organizational priorities.
