Manager, Enterprise Database Services
The Enterprise Database Services Manager at UCSF leads a team responsible for the administration, performance, and security of all major enterprise database platforms, including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Epic’s InterSystems IRIS. The Platform Services team within Infrastructure Services is committed to empowering the academic, medical, and research mission of UCSF by ensuring that all customers have seamless, secure, and accessible technological support. The team oversees the management and maintenance of various technology platforms, including system and cloud services, to guarantee they are secure, readily available, and performing optimally. Platform Services handles the management of critical software, such as Epic, ensuring it supports the highest level of medical service delivery by operating at peak performance. The team also oversees data center operations, including server management, storage, and networking equipment, to ensure the reliable delivery of health services. Additionally, it manages databases with a focus on data security, availability, and top-tier performance. All these tasks are critical not just for the smooth operation of the University’s technological infrastructure, but also for enhancing productivity, enabling the provision of high-quality health services and learning, and ultimately, improving patient and student outcomes.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of experience/training, in one of the following fields: computer science, information technology (IT), information systems (IS), software engineering, data science, data engineering, electrical engineering, or computer engineering.
- 7 years of experience in working in one or more of the following fields: Enterprise Database Administration and Engineering, platform/compute services, IT infrastructure, healthcare IT, or IT service management.
- 3 years of experience managing a team of technical professionals
- Advanced knowledge of Oracle and SQL Server administration, including installation, upgrades, patching, tuning, performance management, security, RAC clusters, and backup strategies.
- Advanced knowledge of MSSQL, PostgreSQL, and MySQL, including installation, tuning, security, patching, high availability configuration, and backup/recovery procedures.
- In-depth knowledge of Epic IRIS administration, including installation, upgrades, patching, tuning, performance, security, and backup/recovery procedures.
- Deep knowledge of Unix, Linux, and Windows operating systems, including basic administration functions, monitoring, and tools such as BigFix, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), and ServiceNow.
- Demonstrated experience managing vendor relationships, including contract management, service evaluation, issue escalation, and successful partnership building in a technology environment.
- Proven track record in managing IT service delivery, including establishing on-call schedules, driving operational excellence, and consistently meeting or exceeding defined SLAs.
- Applies comprehensive knowledge of database systems necessary for strategic planning, technology assessment, and setting organizational direction.
- Proven skill in managing technical staff, including direct and indirect reports, within complex database teams.
- Significant experience in managing ongoing technology infrastructure acquisition and expansion, including the assessment and integration of emerging technologies in enterprise database environments.
- Understands technical concepts and core operating principles related to data communications, computer hardware, vendor IT products, and software.
- Knowledge of platforms such as PeopleSoft HCM and PeopleSoft Financials, including administration, upgrades, and performance tuning.
- Extensive experience in leading and managing technical and database teams.
- Applies skills and abilities related to managing internal information systems functions, data communications networks, and technology environments across campus, medical center, or administrative divisions. Adapts to new responsibilities as organizational needs evolve.
