Position Purpose:
Capstone Energy+ is seeking a Manager of Field Service for the West Territory to lead a team of Field Service Technicians responsible for commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of microturbine systems at customer sites within an assigned sub-region of the western United States. This role is a front-line people leader for a team of Field Service Technicians, ensuring consistent service quality, customer satisfaction, and technical excellence in the field. The Manager of Field Service will serve as the first-line technical and customer escalation point for their assigned sub-region, partnering closely with the VP of Customer Service and cross-functional teams to drive performance, team development, and continuous improvement across field service operations.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of Field Service Technicians, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and technical excellence.
  • Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular coaching and performance reviews, and support career development for all direct reports.
  • Coordinate staffing levels, scheduling, and workload distribution to ensure adequate coverage across the assigned sub-region.
  • Serve as the first-line escalation point for technical issues beyond the capability of field technicians, escalating complex issues to the VP of Customer Service as needed.
Field Operations Management
  • Oversee day-to-day field service activities within the assigned sub-region, including commissioning, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of microturbine systems and associated balance of plant.
  • Ensure all field work is completed on time, within scope, and in compliance with safety regulations, company standards, and customer requirements.
  • Monitor field service metrics including MTTR, MTBF, customer uptime, and first-time fix rates for the assigned sub-region; drive continuous improvement against targets.
  • Manage the sub-region's parts inventory, tooling, and equipment to support operational readiness.
Customer Relationship Management
  • Serve as a customer-facing leader for field service within the assigned sub-region, building and maintaining strong relationships with key accounts.
  • Support resolution of customer escalations, ensuring timely communication and satisfactory outcomes.
  • Partner with sales and commercial teams to identify upsell opportunities for LTMA, service parts, and labor services.
  • Support customer business reviews in partnership with the VP of Customer Service.
Technical Oversight & Standards
  • Maintain strong technical expertise in Capstone microturbine systems, power electronics, and balance of plant to support the team and customer base.
  • Ensure team adherence to field service procedures, work packages, technical manuals, and field action requests.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of standard field service operating procedures for the assigned sub-region.
  • Communicate field findings, failure trends, and improvement opportunities to the VP of Customer Service and Engineering/Product teams.
Reporting & Administration
  • Maintain accurate and timely reporting of field service activity, team performance metrics, and customer status to the VP of Customer Service.
  • Support management of the sub-region budget, including labor, travel, parts consumption, and tooling.
  • Ensure all technicians maintain complete and accurate service records, time and material documentation, and invoicing inputs.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent military technical training and experience.
  • 7+ years of field service experience in gas turbines, power electronics, industrial equipment, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in a field service leadership or supervisory role, managing a team of field technicians.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage customer relationships and resolve escalated technical issues.
  • Strong understanding of commissioning, preventive maintenance, and repair of complex electromechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with service management systems or CRM tools.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout the assigned sub-region (up to 40–50%) and occasionally beyond.
Preferred
  • Direct experience with Capstone microturbine systems or similar distributed energy technologies.
  • Experience managing remote or geographically dispersed field teams.
  • Familiarity with service parts and service contract management.

Work Environment
  • Primarily field-based with regular customer site visits throughout the assigned sub-region.
  • Home base: Van Nuys, CA; travel expected 40–50% of the time.
  • Exposure to industrial environments including manufacturing facilities, energy plants, and outdoor installations.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and operate in varied environmental conditions.
  • Willingness to work beyond standard hours to support customer needs or team escalations.
