JOB SUMMARY
The Manager, Freight Payables plans, organizes and manages the accounts payable function related to freight and ensures timely payment to vendors and/or agents. Leads, coaches and develops staff; and ensures that the company policies and standards and internal controls are being adhered to.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages the freight payable function which includes (but not limited to) timely and accurate payment to vendors and/or agents; preparing payroll and departmental budget; and developing and monitoring vendor statistics and analyzing trends.
- Evaluates freight payables processes to improve efficiencies and cash flow. Works collaboratively with Director Corporate Payables and Insurance.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures.
- Ensures company policies and internal controls are being adhered to.
- Investigates and resolves complex issues or problems escalated by Leads, staff, agents and/or vendors.
- Manages the contra settlement of agent’s accounts for Canada and US.
- Manages Intercompany, CASS, CN / CP, Credit Card releases and other special processing initiatives.
- Oversees and assigns projects to specific team members to lead and/or participate as a project team member. Guide and support project team members to meet project goals and timelines.
- Plans and assigns tasks to staff. Leads, motivates and mentors team.
- Recruits, interviews and hires team members. Consults with Human Resources about employee relations including disciplinary action. Follows all guidelines set forth by the Human Resources department.
- Evaluates and completes individual performance evaluations. Recommends training where required.
- Plans and conducts staff meetings to ensure compliance to established company policies; and to keep staff informed of new policies or procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management. Adheres to established policies and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and standards
- Strong working knowledge and experience of full cycle accounts payable
- Strong people management skills including leading, performance management, mentoring, coaching and developing teams.
- Strong communication (oral & written) skills. Ability to communicate with all levels of employees and management.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
WORK EXPERIENCE – MINIMUM REQUIRED

Base salary is one component of our total rewards package which also includes incentive opportunities, benefits, and professional development. Salary ranges are established by location and reflect relevant factors such as skills, experience, and market conditions. The good-faith salary range for this position is 70,825-106,500 CAD. Actual compensation will be determined based on these factors and may vary accordingly.
