POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager, Fleet IT & Cyber Security is the single point of accountability for information technology and cyber security across the Margaritaville at Sea fleet. The role keeps shipboard systems running, keeps them secure, and keeps them audit-ready. It is a hands-on leadership role: the incumbent works with the ships every day, chairs a weekly fleet IT call, and is on board in person at Palm Beach, Tampa and Miami on turnaround days.

The role sits within MVAS IT and is based in the Orlando office, but it is primarily a travelling position (75–85% travel): most of the incumbent’s time is spent at the three homeports and aboard the ships. MVAS, not the ship manager, owns shipboard IT, so this role leads IT on all three vessels. The shipboard IT officers report solid-line to the Master of their vessel and dotted-line to this role. It coordinates with the ship manager (AE CMI), the Masters, the Company Security Officer and the Legal and Administration department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership Functions

Management and Leadership: Provide dotted-line leadership to the shipboard IT officers, who report solid-line to the Master of their vessel. Set technical standards and priorities, hold regular touchpoints, give input to performance reviews, and support hiring, training, development and rotations. Make sure each IT officer has the tools, spares and access needed to do the job. Build a capable, motivated fleet IT team through coaching and leading by example, and reinforce MVAS culture and compliance with company policies and audits.

Stakeholder Communication and Reporting: Report monthly to VP, IT and Technology and senior leadership on fleet IT performance, cyber risk, incidents, audit findings and budget. Keep Masters, the Company Security Officer, Legal and the ship manager informed, and address issues and risks promptly.

Vendor and Third-Party Management: Select and manage IT, connectivity and security vendors and service providers, holding them to SLAs, deliverables and timelines. Make sure every provider works under an active contract reviewed by Legal, and that invoices are validated and paid on time.

Budgeting and Planning: Own the fleet IT budget: build annual budgets, track spend, forecast, explain variances and plan equipment lifecycle replacement. Follow MVAS purchasing, invoicing and financial policies.

Planning and Program Development: Plan and lead fleet IT projects, including upgrades, dry docks and new-ship entry into service. Define scope, set priorities, allocate resources and deliver on time and on budget.

Compliance and Security: Make sure shipboard systems meet MVAS security policies and maritime cyber requirements, and embed security into every installation, change and vendor connection.

Fleet IT Oversight and Daily Ship Support

  • Interface daily with each vessel’s IT officer(s) and senior officers; triage and track issues to closure.

  • Closely monitor the health and performance of shipboard IT systems, networks and connectivity (satellite / LEO and port Wi-Fi), escalating and resolving outages quickly.

  • Chair a weekly fleet IT and cyber call with each vessel and key shoreside stakeholders; issue actions and follow up.

  • Set and enforce fleet IT standards so all three ships run consistent configurations, procedures and controls.

Cyber Security and Compliance

  • Manage the fleet cyber security program: monitoring, vulnerability management, patching, access control, backups and incident response.

  • Maintain the cyber risk management elements of each vessel’s Safety Management System as required by IMO Resolution MSC.428(98), following IMO MSC-FAL.1/Circ.3 guidance, and support ISM, flag and class audits.

  • Lead the response to cyber incidents affecting the ships; coordinate with the Company Security Officer, Legal and outside providers, and preserve evidence.

  • Protect guest and crew data and payment systems on board, supporting privacy and PCI DSS obligations.

  • Deliver cyber awareness training and drills for shipboard crew and officers.

Port Visits and On-Site Presence

  • Conduct regular in-person turnaround-day visits to Paradise (Port of Palm Beach), Islander (Port Tampa Bay) and Beachcomber (PortMiami).

  • During visits, inspect equipment and server/network spaces, verify controls, reconcile inventory, support installs and upgrades, and meet with the IT officer and Master.

  • Document each visit with findings, corrective actions and owners.

IT Asset Management and Logging

  • Maintain a complete, current log of all fleet IT equipment and software licenses by vessel — location, serial number, condition, warranty and lifecycle date.

  • Control the movement, replacement and secure disposal of equipment, including data-wiping of retired devices.

  • Maintain records of changes, incidents and maintenance so the fleet is audit-ready at all times.

Support and Maintenance

  • Resolve IT incidents quickly, and identify and fix recurring issues to minimize impact on guests and operations.

  • Perform root-cause analysis on priority incidents and put corrective actions in place to prevent recurrence.

Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain and update fleet IT and cyber security policies and procedures.

  • Evaluate tools, vendors and practices against industry standards, and introduce improvements that raise reliability and reduce cost.
