Manager I - Project Engineering

Discussion

A DAY IN THE LIFE

As a Manager I – Project Engineering, Wind, you'll lead and develop a team of engineers responsible for delivering safe, utility-scale engineering designs across wind projects from project award through closeout. With a core focus on People, Projects, and Processes, you'll coach, train, and mentor your team while setting clear objectives and establishing metrics to ensure engineering commitments are met. Your day moves between supporting the development of your team, overseeing engineering deliverables and project priorities, removing roadblocks, and partnering across Engineering, Construction, Supply Chain, and other project teams to keep work moving forward. You'll help strengthen processes, drive consistency and accountability, and ensure your team has the tools and support needed to successfully execute Blattner's growing portfolio of wind projects.

STEP INTO THE ROLE

  • Oversees the team's contribution across the full engineering lifecycle from pre-construction estimating and bid-phase design through project award, design delivery, construction support, and closeout — emphasizing schedule conformance and prioritizing the largest financial impacts at each phase.
  • Delivers designs that provide the most economical solution to satisfy the power plant's design requirements. Collaborates across company departments, vendors, and outside engineering firms to explore innovative ideas, methods, materials, and technologies that promote safety, lower cost, and increase efficiency.
  • Manages and maintains safe utility-scale engineering design practices that comply with Owner, Company, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Provides guidance to Lead Engineers, Senior Engineers, and Engineer I/II staff as they support both project engineering design and estimating-phase deliverables.
  • Supports technical review and vetting of new equipment, products, and materials. Coordinates with Supply Chain, Estimating, and Construction for approval.
  • Drives consistency in designs across multiple projects, Owners, and the department. Partners with team members to establish standard design approaches where applicable.
  • Maintains and oversees engineering schedules and budgets across the portfolio to meet project requirements; understands time and resource management to achieve results needed for project deadlines.
  • Coordinates with Manager II – Engineering, Senior Manager – Engineering, and Director – Engineering to determine and communicate resource needs to support workload balancing across projects and business units.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil, structural, mechanical, or electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited college, or relevant equivalent industry experience, required.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or equivalent credential is required and must be obtained within one year of hire if not already held.
  • Seven or more years of progressive engineering experience in a related energy or construction industry (e.g., civil/structural, electrical, power generation, or utilities), including demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
  • Position is estimated to require travel up to 50% of time, subject to fluctuations based on project and business needs.

WHAT SETS YOU APART

  • Strong understanding of utility-scale wind project engineering and the engineering lifecycle from project award through closeout.
  • Ability to balance the three core priorities of People, Projects, and Processes while keeping teams focused on successful project execution.
  • Experience setting team objectives and using meaningful metrics to drive accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.
