Manager of Behavioral Supports
POSITION SUMMARY
The Manager of Behavioral Support Services is a key member of the Behavioral Leadership Team, reporting to the Director of Behavioral Support Services. This role oversees the day-to-day clinical coordination, supervision, and delivery of behavioral services for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Under the Director’s guidance, the Manager ensures the implementation of person-centered, evidence-based interventions, maintains compliance with COMAR, Maryland DDA, and accreditation standards (CARF/COA), and supports staff development, service quality, and program advancement.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis and/or Psychology, Special Education, Social Work, or a closely related field (required). Active Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification (preferred). Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) in Maryland (required).
Experience: Minimum of five to seven years of experience providing behavioral services to individuals with ASD or IDD. At least two to three years of supervisory or clinical leadership experience. Experience working in DDA-regulated programs or similar environments preferred.
Skills: Strong knowledge of COMAR and Maryland DDA regulations and accreditation standards (CARF/COA). Expertise in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), crisis intervention, and behavior management. Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficiency with EHR systems, behavioral data systems, and Microsoft Office Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, families, and stakeholders
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to BCBAs, Behavior Specialists, and behavioral support staff, including performance evaluations and competency assessments.
- Lead onboarding and ongoing staff training initiatives, including Positive Behavior Supports (PBS), BPST, crisis prevention, and trauma-informed care.
- Promote adherence to BACB ethical standards and foster a culture of accountability, professional development, and continuous learning.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, families, and external providers to integrate behavioral supports and ensure continuity of care.
- Participate in Person-Centered Planning (PCP) meetings and interdisciplinary team discussions.
- Oversee behavioral data collection, analyze trends, and use findings to inform clinical decision-making and intervention adjustments.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant documentation, including progress notes, incident reports, and required reporting.
- Maintain compliance with COMAR, Maryland DDA, HIPAA, OSHA, and accreditation standards, and support audits and licensing reviews.
- Participate in quality assurance initiatives, including monitoring KPIs, conducting root cause analyses, and supporting corrective action plans.
- Assist the Director with program planning, staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation while ensuring appropriate coverage and operational efficiency.
REQUIRED TRAINING AND CERTIFICATIONS
Maintain active BCBA and LBA credentials with required continuing education. Completion and annual recertification of Behavioral Principles and Strategies Training (BPST). Certification in an approved crisis intervention program within 90 days of hire. Ongoing training in trauma-informed care and person-centered practices
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in residential, community, and office settings. Must be able to respond to behavioral crises, including standing, walking, and supporting physical interventions when necessary. Occasional travel between program sites required
