Role Overview

The Operational Risk Manager position sits within Zurich and focuses on operational risk management matters for the Wealth and Asset Management businesses.

The Group Operational Risk team is part of the second line of defence and provides oversight across Schroders. The team is responsible for providing the tools and framework for managing operational risk, and works closely with the first line of defence and other control functions.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Defines the Group’s operational risk framework, including policy and risk appetite;

  • Develops and maintains the Group’s operational risk system, Archer;

  • Provides the methodology, support and oversight of the Risk and Control Assessments (RCAs) completed by the first line of defence, including those for new products, end to end processes, new clients, and business change;

  • Provides oversight of the risk event process, including review and challenge of risk event investigations and mitigating actions;

Team Overview:

The Non-Financial Risk function is comprised of several key teams:

  • Operational Risk

  • Cyber & Technology Risk

  • Operational Resilience

What you’ll do:

This position is responsible for providing robust oversight of the Operational Risk Framework implementation by the business areas, along with providing the tools, training and support required.

  • Responsible for stakeholder management within the Switzerland business on operational risk matters

  • Management and of the risk and control assessment (RCA) program including review and challenge across the business RCAs and change assessments

  • Responsible for second line oversight of key transformation initiatives

  • Facilitating the investigation of risk events, including significant event escalations to Senior Management

  • Responsible for delivery of the Operational Risk sections of the Wealth Management ICAAP. This includes, development of operational risk scenarios and estimation of the Group’s operational risk capital requirement

  • Analysis, reporting and presentation of operational risk MI including RCAs, risk events and issues for senior committees such as the Group Risk Committee, Board Audit and Risk Committee and entity Boards

  • Carry out presentations to clients on operational risk framework and collating responses to RFPs and client queries

  • Oversight and management of the operational risk system and training of business users

  • Provide operational risk training to the business

  • Lead team projects such as framework enhancements initiatives

The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need

  • Educated to degree level

  • Wealth/Asset management and operational risk management experience

  • Strong project management and leadership skills

  • Good interpersonal and influencing skills and a team-player attitude

  • Strong written communication skills and attention to detail: the ability to write and review accurate, clear risk reports appropriate for the relevant audience

  • Good organisational and time management skills

  • Analytical mindset with logic and problem solving skills

The knowledge, experience and qualifications that’ll help

  • Assurance/ audit experience

  • Asset management qualifications, e.g. IMC /CFA

  • Operational risk system experience

  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Power BI.

  • Fluent in English, German a big advantage
