As the Manager, Product Communications on the Communications team, you'll own the communications strategy and execution for the Consumer & Business product group, shaping how millions of customers and the media understand Coinbase's consumer products. This team drives proactive and reactive narratives that build trust, drive product awareness, and protect Coinbase's reputation across earned and owned channels. You'll define the communications approach for major product launches, advise product leadership on narrative strategy, and serve as the go-to communications partner for one of Coinbase's highest-visibility product groups.
What you'll do:
- Own the end-to-end communications strategy for the Consumer & Business product group, defining narratives that drive awareness, adoption, and trust across product launches, feature releases, and company announcements.
- Lead proactive media relations for your beat, cultivating relationships with crypto and mainstream press, pitching stories, and securing high-impact coverage that positions Coinbase's consumer products.
- Advise Consumer product leadership on communications strategy, preparing executives for media appearances with briefing documents, key messages, and anticipated Q&A.
- Drive rapid-response communications and crisis management for issues related to consumer products, partnering with Legal, Policy, and senior leadership to deliver clear, timely narratives.
- Shape content across channels, including messaging frameworks, blog posts, social copy, and press materials, setting the quality bar and ensuring consistency with Coinbase's brand voice.
- Partner cross-functionally with Product Marketing, Design, Engineering, and Compliance to align launch communications with product roadmaps and regulatory requirements.
Required Skills and Experience:
- 7+ years of communications experience at a PR agency or in-house communications team, with at least 2 years working within crypto, fintech, or consumer technology and a track record of independently owning a product communications beat.
- Proven media relations results, including established relationships with crypto and mainstream tech press and demonstrated success in placing proactive product narratives and managing reactive cycles.
- Exceptional writing and storytelling ability with a portfolio demonstrating the translation of complex product and technology concepts into clear, compelling narratives for mainstream audiences.
- Direct experience advising product executives on communications strategy, including spokesperson preparation, launch messaging, and narrative development for senior leaders.
- Demonstrated ability to operate as a strategic communications partner, not just an executor, setting narrative direction and making judgment calls on positioning, timing, and channel strategy.
- Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
