The Research Office (RO) delivers central administrative services across a broad spectrum of research support, including grants and funding schemes, research ethics, integrity and policy, research committees, research culture and infrastructure, and institution-level partnerships and collaborations.

We are seeking a dynamic, meticulous and data-literate professional to join our team as Manager. Reporting to senior management, the appointee will lead the University’s work on Research Assessment Exercises (RAEs) and research impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead RAE-related work, including internal reviews of research outputs, impact and research environment, submission planning and preparation, data validation and analysis, training, and stakeholder liaison;
  • Lead regular internal RAE in collaboration with Faculties/ Schools;
  • Serve as the secretary of RAE-related working groups/ task forces;
  • Develop and operate the University’s database for research outputs, impact and related information across RAE cycles — covering data requirements, workflows, validation, quality assurance, reporting and dashboards;
  • Facilitate the identification, development and dissemination of research impact case studies;
  • Partially support the administration of research grants and funding schemes, and assist in developing related policies, systems and processes; and
  • Carry out ad hoc tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

  • A good bachelor’s degree or above, preferably with postgraduate qualifications;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the higher education sector; direct experience supporting an RAE, REF or comparable research assessment exercise would be an advantage;
  • Experience managing datasets or databases and a high level of IT literacy;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese, including Putonghua);
  • Good project management, analytical and writing skills; and
  • Strong sense of responsibility, meticulous, detailed-minded and able to multitask with the help of AI tools.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of two years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
