Job Summary

FreeWheel’s mission is to build great advertising software. We operate a Demand Side Platform that powers hundreds of DSPs, processing trillions of transactions to satisfy millions of dollars’ worth of advertising campaigns every month. The Manager, Software Engineering will lead the Buyercloud (formerly Beeswax) Ad Serving team, responsible for the backbone of the Buyercloud platform that handles billions of ad auctions per day.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of software engineers, providing direction, guidance, and growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the BuyerCloud Product Management team to deliver new features to Buyercloud customers.
  • Provide guidance on technical architecture, design philosophies, and engineering practices.
  • Drive improvements to Ad Serving software infrastructure.
  • Ensure adherence to deadlines, specifications, and budgets.
  • Review team members’ work to ensure quality to team standards.
  • Provide technical support and training in Ad Serving capabilities.
  • Implement and review employee performance metrics.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies.
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Maintain regular, consistent, and punctual attendance; may be required to work nights and weekends.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of technical leadership experience.
  • 10+ years of overall software development experience.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Proficient in building distributed applications using object‑oriented languages such as C++, Java, Rust, or Go.
  • Experience deploying and operating applications in a public cloud provider.
  • Proficient in Jira, Confluence, Git, and MS Office products.
  • AWS certification is a bonus.
  • Strong SQL skills with hands‑on experience.
  • Experience with monitoring tools like Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK stack.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the media or advertising industry.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems that handle high‑volume real‑time processing.
  • Knowledge of ad serving and bidding strategies.

Working Conditions

The Manager, Software Engineering will work with team members located in multiple remote locations and time zones. Working conditions comply with FreeWheel’s company handbook unless otherwise noted.
