Manager, Software Engineering
You'll lead a portfolio of technology projects and a team of software engineers experienced in event-driven, cloud-native, and full-stack systems, delivering solutions that meet the needs of the business and customers. You'll collaborate closely with product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions, and you'll make key decisions on design, architecture, and delivery. You'll build teams, actively coach and mentor engineers, and help them grow their careers. You'll drive agile development practices, continuously improve team processes and technology choices, and champion transparency and partnership between engineers and business partners. You'll engage in technical discussions to influence business decisions, ensure work meets quality and architectural standards, and participate in the on-call rotation as part of the you-build-it-you-run-it ethos.
Responsibilities
- Lead a portfolio of technology projects and a team of software engineers
- Collaborate with product managers to deliver cloud-based solutions
- Make decisions on the design, architecture, and delivery of systems
- Build teams and coach and mentor team members
- Drive agile development and analytical methodologies
- Improve operations, processes, methodologies, and technology choices
- Interact with teams, customers, and peers to improve cross-department processes
- Ensure transparency and partnership between engineers and business partners
- Engage in technical discussions and propose technology solutions
- Ensure work meets quality, operational, and architectural standards
- Participate in the on-call pager rotation
- Mentor engineers to help them grow into technical leadership roles
- Break down complex, ambiguous problems into actionable work
- Champion engineering best practices including observability and incident response
- Partner with Product and Customer Success teams on scalable technical solutions
- Collaborate across distributed teams in Ireland, the U.S., the Philippines, and Australia
- Influence product roadmap by identifying technical opportunities
- Identify and eliminate bottlenecks in the development lifecycle
- Drive adoption of modern engineering practices
- Lead post-mortems and blameless retrospectives
- Own critical systems end-to-end from design through production support
- Take responsibility for production reliability and incident prevention
- Make technical trade-off decisions and communicate the reasoning
Requirements
- Strong proficiency with the software development lifecycle and engineering excellence processes
- Experience with Agile methodologies and leading moderately sized projects
- Technical savvy to guide complex technical discussions and weigh tradeoffs
- Skilled operator of Agile practices and data driven methodologies
- Deep knowledge and experience with Microsoft languages/frameworks (C#/.NET, SQL Server, Entity Framework) ideally
- Expertise with Azure (Function Apps, Service Bus, etc.) a bonus
- Experience developing people and building high impact teams
