EDUCATION
High School/GED or equivalent (Required)
Other : Sixty (60) semester hours of college-level education in selected subjects relative to nuclear power plant operations or two (2) years of nuclear power plant experience. (Required)
In lieu of the above requirements, relevant experience will be considered.
EXPERIENCE
10 Years + of nuclear power plant experience. (Required)
2 Years + (3 of the 10 years experience) shall be supervisory experience, and of these 3 years, 1 year experience shall be Shift Manager experience. (Required)

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
UNIT OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT:
Directs the activities of the Plant Operations personnel at the South Texas Project Electric Generating Station in order to ensure safe and efficient operation of the unit in accordance with the facility operating license, state and local regulations, and other regulatory directives or requirements. Establishes high standards of excellence and implements appropriate programs to monitor performance to those standards. Directs and coordinates the activities of the operating staff and its supporting systems in accordance with applicable licenses, Nuclear Regulatory Commission and other governmental regulations, permits, procedures, company orders, rules, instructions, and policies. Acts as Duty Operations Manager as assigned.
Orders the immediate trip or shutdown of the reactor if conditions warrant such action, if licensed.
Orders the immediate cessation of any inappropriate activity in the facility including maintenance, construction or testing.
Initiates requests for equipment modifications and design changes. Identifies problem areas, coordinates activities between reactor operations and support personnel, and assists in expediting repair and restoration of plant systems or components.
Analyzes and evaluates operational transients and events to determine the cause and the appropriate corrective actions.
Reports all the Limiting Conditions for operations, deviations from license requirements, abnormal operations and reportable occurrences to upper management and other appropriate parties promptly.
Provides training and instruction to Plant Operations Department personnel. Recommends selection, promotion and retention of Plant Operations Department personnel. Ensures adequate, qualified licensed and other personnel are scheduled to operate the unit.
Interfaces regularly with the assigned unit's management and personnel. Acts as Duty Operations Manager as assigned.

Performs people management.
Prepares and delivers oral and written communications relating to work group and station activities (e.g., reports, presentations, department meetings).
Monitors work group reports and recommendations to assure evaluations, assessments and support are effectively developed and communicated.
Develops and maintains appropriate technical expertise within the work group to ensure adequate talent to perform meaningful assessments and program oversight.
Represents department/company on internal work teams and committees and with external entities.
Maintains composure in high stress or adverse situations.
Understands and implements company policies.
FISCAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
Maintains fiscal records and procedures of the department to ensure the effective and efficient operations.
Understands and manages to financial and budget targets. Incorporates financial analysis into strategic decisions.
Proactively monitors and interprets ongoing financial performance and responds strategically.
Incorporates financial analysis into strategic decisions and takes accountability for financial decisions within area.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Accept ERO position as needed.
Accept outage position as needed.
Perform personnel activities for direct reports (promotions, salary changes, counseling, performance appraisals, development plans).
Manage organization and related activities.
Develop, implement and manage the business plan, budget, goals, training requirements and performance measures for responsible organization.
Oversee department’s CAP program. Establish timeline to close open items.
Coordinate and chair meetings with departments, management and executive personnel.
Rotate between the department Division Manager positions as assigned.

Knowledge of the facility license and Technical Specifications including reporting requirements. Knowledge of state and federal regulations including reporting requirements. Knowledge of radiation protection policies, procedures and techniques.
Knowledge of reactor theory and thermodynamics. Knowledge of reactor protection and engineered safety features systems. Knowledge of instrumentation and control systems actions and responses. Knowledge of the operating characteristics of the facilities.
Ability to operate a personal computer and current STPNOC supplied software. Leadership/supervisory skills and the ability to delegate work.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Overtime and alternate work schedules as needed.
Subject to callouts twenty-four hours per day seven days per week.
Normal office environment and daily monitoring of field activities in a nuclear power plant.
