Build It Right. Build Your Career at Steel Craft.

Do you take pride in a clean, sound weld? Do you like reading a print and turning it into a finished part? At Steel Craft, skilled welders are the backbone of what we build. We’re looking for an experienced Manual Welder to join our fabrication team. You’ll work with carbon steel and aluminum, mentor newer welders, and get a chance to cross-train on robotic welding.

Why You’ll Like Working Here

  • Steady, full-time work in a well-established steel fabrication shop
  • A chance to grow: train others, cross-train on robotic welding and add to your certifications
  • A team where your skills and attention to detail are valued
  • Benefits: medical/dental/vision, 401(k) with match, paid time off, paid holidays, etc.
  • Extras: shift differential, attendance bonus, PPE/boot allowance, etc.

What You’ll Do

  • Weld carbon steel, aluminum and other metals to spec using weld fixtures and WPS
  • Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols and technical drawings
  • Set up equipment, adjust machine settings and select the right filler metals
  • Do plasma cutting, oxy-fuel cutting, carbon arc gouging, stud welding and metal finishing as needed
  • Fit up and verify parts on the table using a straightedge, square, calipers and rule
  • Inspect welds, do first-piece inspections, and find and repair defects
  • Keep equipment maintained and report any problems
  • Log job information in our ERP system and complete operations and quality paperwork
  • Train newer team members on manual welding basics
  • Cross-train on and run robotic weld equipment as needed

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of production manual welding experience or training
  • Hands-on GMAW (MIG) experience
  • 1+ year of experience with lifting equipment (forklift, crane, jib, hoist, magnets)
  • Comfortable with open-table fit-up
  • Able to read blueprints and interpret weld symbols
  • Solid shop math (fractions, decimals, conversions) and measuring skills (tape, protractor, height gauge, caliper)
  • Mechanical aptitude and a sharp eye for detail
  • Able to obtain the required weld certifications

Nice to Have

  • GTAW (TIG) experience
  • Aluminum welding experience
  • Knowledge of GD&T
  • Lean manufacturing background
  • Experience with Shoplogix or similar shop-floor data entry

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This is a manufacturing role on the production floor. Expect noise, dust, metal debris and changes in temperature. PPE is required and provided. You’ll stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb and reach overhead, and you’ll frequently lift up to 50 lbs. Good close and distance vision, color vision and depth perception are needed.
