Manufacturing Engineer Project-Based
Description
Have you ever written a script to eliminate hours of tedious work? Designed and built a component just to prove your idea would work? Taught yourself a new tool or technology because you saw a problem worth solving?
Maybe your best engineering accomplishment happened in a classroom, a garage, a robotics competition, or simply because you couldn't resist finding a better way to do something.
If that sounds like you, we'd like to meet you.
At Veridiam, we value ingenuity, initiative, and the ability to turn ideas into practical solutions. We're looking for emerging engineering talent eager to tackle real manufacturing challenges, learn from experienced professionals, and make a meaningful impact from day one.
Veridiam is a strategic manufacturing partner specializing in precision fabrication of components and assemblies made from exotic metals for critical applications in aerospace, defense, medical, nuclear, and space.
Our roots were formed in the exacting nuclear and aerospace industries, expanded into medical where we have supplied critical components to a global customer base.
POSITION SUMMARY
This is a six-month, entry-level project-based temporary assignment with the potential to transition to regular employment based on business needs, available opportunities, and demonstrated performance. Regular employment is not guaranteed.
This opportunity is designed to give engineers meaningful hands-on experience across a variety of manufacturing challenges. Work alongside experienced engineers and manufacturing professionals, taking ownership of defined assignments and progressing to new projects as objectives are achieved.
Projects may involve mechanical design, manufacturing automation, production systems, or quality improvement. Assignments will be matched to demonstrated abilities, interests, and business needs across technical areas. Work may be primarily within one area or the opportunity to contribute to multiple areas as projects evolve.
As projects are completed and capabilities are demonstrated, the opportunity to take on new challenges, broaden technical experience, and assume increasing responsibility may exist.
Individuals with a solid engineering foundation and demonstrated problem-solving skills is preferred. Little or no professional experience accepted.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Apply engineering fundamentals and creative problem-solving to improve manufacturing processes, equipment, quality, and operational performance.
- Analyze engineering drawings, technical specifications, manufacturing records, and production data to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Develop practical solutions, including designs, analytical tools, automation scripts, technical documentation, and process improvements.
- Take ownership of defined project deliverables, collaborate with experienced engineering and manufacturing professionals, and transition to successive assignments as project objectives are completed.
Track A – MECHANICAL ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING AUTOMATION
Example prior projects: Developing an automated machine-feeding mechanism, improving sheet metal tooling, or designing a fixture that eliminates a repetitive manual operation.
- Develop and modify CAD models, mechanical drawings, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing equipment designs.
- Support prototyping, fabrication, testing, and implementation of manufacturing equipment and automation improvements.
- Research mechanical components, develop bills of materials, and support equipment and tooling development.
- Assist with equipment qualification, process documentation, ergonomic improvements, and production readiness.
Track B – MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS AND WIP CONTROL
Example prior projects: Developing an automated WIP reconciliation tool, creating production-aging dashboards, or identifying discrepancies between manufacturing records and physical inventory.
- Analyze and reconcile manufacturing data across ERP/MRP systems, engineering records, and shop floor operations.
- Investigate inconsistencies involving work orders, production routings, work-in-process inventory, and manufacturing documentation.
- Develop reports, dashboards, databases, and analytical tools that improve production visibility, material flow, and operational control.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive analysis, strengthen data accuracy, and improve production planning and execution.
Track C – QUALITY ENGINEERING & NONCONFORMANCE RESOLUTION
Example prior projects: Developing a searchable database of historical nonconformances, automating technical document comparisons, or building a system to track engineering dispositions and rework completion.
- Analyze inspection results, engineering specifications, and nonconformance records to identify and quantify technical discrepancies.
- Research historical engineering dispositions, rework instructions, and technical records to support qualified engineers in resolving manufacturing issues.
- Develop analytical tools, reports, and workflow improvements that increase traceability, accountability, and timely resolution of nonconforming material.
- Explore approved automation and AI-assisted tools to improve technical research, documentation, and preparation of proposed solutions for authorized engineering review.
- Demonstrates ability to appear for work on time, follow directions from a supervisor, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow work rules and procedures, comply with company policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and accepts constructive feedback.
- May occasionally be asked to perform work on special assignments in addition to normal job duties.
- Veridiam reserves the right to change job responsibilities, transfer job positions, or assign additional job duties at any time.
- Other duties as assigned, requested or needed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline, completed or expected by the assignment start date.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Analytical ability, technical curiosity, and resourcefulness in solving unfamiliar problems.
- Familiarity with engineering drawings, manufacturing processes, technical data, or mechanical systems through coursework, projects, or practical experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or comparable analytical tools and a willingness to learn new software and technologies.
- Strong communication, organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Hands-on experience through internships, senior design projects, Formula SAE, robotics, research, personal projects, or similar technical activities (preferred).
- Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or other mechanical design tools; exposure to prototyping, fabrication, machining, or manufacturing equipment (preferred).
- Experience with Python, SQL, Power Query, advanced Excel, or other scripting and automation tools (preferred).
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems, production processes, quality systems, inspection data, or engineering configuration management (preferred).
