Manufacturing Engineering Manager

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Works closely with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Customer Service in the following functions:

  • Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) from design transfer through pilot build and production ramp, ensuring manufacturability, testability, and cost targets are met.
  • Partner with Engineering on DFM/DFA reviews for new products, driving issues back into design before they reach the floor.
  • Lead manufacturing process improvement initiatives (Lean, Kaizen, standard work, 5S) to improve yield, cycle time, and cost.
  • Analyze scrap, rework, and yield data to identify and eliminate root causes of process variation; drive process capability studies (Cpk) and statistical process control.
  • Design and implement new assembly and test process set-up and cell layouts to support new products.
  • Lead the implementation of new methods to improve cost, capacity and quality across the product portfolio.
  • Develop, validate, and document new test methods, fixtures, and equipment for new and existing products.
  • Specify, justify, and commission new manufacturing and test equipment, including capital planning.
  • Serve as the manufacturing subject matter expert for AMOT’s actuator product line, with working knowledge of electronic components, wiring/harnessing, PCB assembly, and electrical test methods.
  • Partner with Electrical/Electronics Engineering on process development for actuator sub-assemblies and final test; troubleshoot electronic and electro-mechanical issues in build and test.
  • Provide engineering-level root-cause analysis on RMA and field-reported issues, particularly on electronic/actuator subsystems; partner with Quality and Customer Service on corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Work with Supply Chain and key domestic/international suppliers on process, quality, and component issues tied to new and existing designs.
  • Partner closely with the Operations Manager to transition new processes into stable daily production.
  • Support supplier corrective action requests (SCARs) and supplier quality/process reviews as needed.
  • Ensure equipment and processes are available to meet customer order satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with all corporate, regulatory, and EHS requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

DIRECT REPORTS: Lead a team size of 3-5 Manufacturing/Process and Test Engineers

Directly supervises Manufacturing/Process Engineers and Test Engineers, leading them through NPI and process-improvement initiatives to hit project goals and manufacturing solution milestones on time. Responsibilities also include interviewing, hiring, and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; and addressing and resolving employee concerns, in accordance with company policy and applicable law.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering required; advanced degree a plus. 7–10 years of progressive manufacturing/process engineering experience, including direct ownership of NPI and new process/test set-up.

Specific Skill requirements include:

  • Electronics or electro-mechanical assembly and test experience required — actuators, motors, PCB/harness assemblies, or comparable electro-mechanical products.
  • Experience in a high-mix, low-volume industrial manufacturing environment required; valve, flow control, or engineered-to-order products preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience designing manufacturing layouts and test fixtures/equipment for new products.
  • Strong working knowledge of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies (5S, Kaizen, standard work, root-cause problem solving).
  • Working knowledge of electronic components, wiring/harnessing, and electrical test methods; able to read schematics and troubleshoot electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and resolving supplier quality/process issues tied to new designs.
  • Detailed knowledge in job traveler and routing setup principles.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and governmental regulations. Ability to respond to common inquiries from customers, suppliers, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management and cross-functional stakeholders.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply mathematical and statistical concepts to process capability analysis, including Cpk/Ppk calculations, statistical process control, and yield/cycle-time analysis.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications, ERP/MRP platforms, and CAD or statistical software.

REASONING ABILITY

Proven problem-solving ability. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, schematic, or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Desired: Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, Lean Manufacturing certification, IPC-A-610/620 electronics assembly certification a plus.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical actuator design and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of machining and assembly processes.
  • Knowledge of the valve/flow control industry.
