HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT
Hands-on Manufacturing Test Engineer (Hardware) with strong experience in hardware testing, electrical/electromechanical troubleshooting, failure analysis, and manufacturing support.
The ideal candidate can independently troubleshoot complex product failures, isolate issues to the component, subassembly, manufacturing process, supplier material, test fixture/equipment, or interface level, determine root cause, and clearly communicate technical findings to customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
This is not a Software Test Engineer position. The primary focus is hardware test engineering and hands-on manufacturing support.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Hardware Test Engineering – 80%
- Own production hardware testing, troubleshooting, failure analysis, fault isolation, and test-related continuous improvement.
- Independently troubleshoot electrical, electronic, and electromechanical failures using schematics, drawings, specifications, test procedures, test logs, and diagnostic equipment.
- Identify what failed, where it failed, why it failed, and which component/system/process is causing the failure.
- Determine whether failures originate from product hardware, component/supplier material, workmanship, manufacturing process, test equipment, fixture, interface, or test methodology.
- Analyze test data, logs, error codes, and failure trends; lead/support RCA, 5-Why, Fishbone, 8D, CAPA, containment, and corrective actions.
- Maintain and continuously improve Product Troubleshooting Guides, diagnostic procedures, failure libraries, test instructions, and lessons learned.
- Support test stations, fixtures, instrumentation, and troubleshooting equipment; drive improvements in FPY, test yield, reliability, repeatability, and cycle time.
- Train and support technicians in standardized troubleshooting and test methods.
- Develop sufficient technical understanding of externally controlled test systems, specifications, fixtures, instrumentation, and acceptance criteria to effectively support production and failure analysis.
- Develop sufficient technical understanding of customer test systems to interpret test sequences, limits, logs, error codes, results, and failure conditions.
- Evaluate and communicate test findings using the appropriate technical language with Customer ? Internal Teams ? Suppliers, ensuring alignment on failure mechanism, root cause, and corrective action.
- Identify and escalate suspected issues with customer test scripts, specifications, test limits, fixtures, or equipment using objective technical evidence.
- Attend and actively support customer, supplier, failure-analysis, test, engineering, qualification, and production-related meetings, including tracking assigned actions through closure.
Manufacturing Engineering – 20%
- Support production, NPI, product transfers, qualification/pilot builds, manufacturing troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
- Investigate assembly, workmanship, tooling, fixture, material, documentation, and process-related issues.
- Support development and improvement of work instructions, manufacturing/test procedures, process controls, and troubleshooting methods.
- Evaluate manufacturing and test impacts associated with engineering changes, including inventory exposure, work-in-process (WIP), tooling, fixtures, documentation, training, and implementation requirements.
- Review technical dispositions and support resolution of material, workmanship, supplier and engineering-related production issues, including containment, corrective actions, and implementation activities.
- Work cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Quality Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Planning, Program Management, customers, and suppliers.
Ideal Candidate
- The engineer must be capable of determining: What failed ? Where it failed ? Why it failed ? Root cause/source ? Supporting evidence ? Corrective action ? Verification and closure.
- The ideal candidate is equally comfortable troubleshooting hardware on the manufacturing floor, analyzing test data, working across departments, and professionally presenting technical findings to customers and suppliers.
- Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business.
- Achievement of objectives must include an over-riding commitment to quality that must permeate the areas of responsibility.
- Enable and Drive Change in the Organization.
Not a comprehensive list of duties. Duties may change without notice at management’s sole discretion
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
- Bachelor's / Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant technical experience may be considered
- 4–8 years of hands-on Hardware Test Engineering and/or Manufacturing Engineering experience in a production environment.
- Demonstrated experience with hardware troubleshooting, manufacturing test, failure analysis, test equipment, and root cause investigation.
- Experience supporting complex electrical/electromechanical products, semiconductor equipment, robotics, automation, or capital equipment is preferred.
- Experience working directly with customers and suppliers in technical failures, corrective actions, and engineering changes is highly desirable.
Must be able to work 100% on-site in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
