JOB SUMMARY
The Market Development Representative is responsible for identifying, researching, contacting, and qualifying prospective customers to create new business opportunities for Sellmark. This is a proactive, outbound-focused role that turns potential accounts into qualified, documented opportunities that can be effectively transitioned to the Sales team. The position will spend a significant portion of each day conducting account research and outbound customer contact, including phone calls, email, and other approved channels.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS
  • Research assigned markets and identify prospective dealers, retailers, distributors, government suppliers, and other potential commercial accounts.
  • Conduct consistent outbound prospecting through high-volume phone calls, email, and other approved communication channels.
  • Identify and verify appropriate buyers, decision-makers, purchasing contacts, and other key customer contacts.
  • Research prospective accounts to understand business type, market coverage, products and brands carried, competitive relationships, and potential opportunity.
  • Qualify and prioritize accounts based on market fit, commercial potential, customer needs, timing, and level of opportunity.
  • Schedule qualified introductory meetings between prospective customers and the appropriate Sales Representative.
  • Provide Sales with complete and actionable handoffs, including account background, verified contacts, identified needs, opportunity, timing, and recommended next steps.
  • Maintain complete and accurate account, contact, qualification, activity, and follow-up information in Salesforce.
  • Assist customers without an assigned Sales Representative with order placement, dealer portal enrollment, and general account support.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support the department's effective operation.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Entry-level opportunity; prior professional sales experience is not required. We are looking for candidates with motivation, aptitude, and willingness to learn.
  • Comfortable spending a significant portion of the workday making outbound phone calls and initiating conversations with new people.
  • Confident, professional, and able to establish rapport with prospective and existing customers.
  • Persistent and resilient, with the discipline to consistently follow up and move opportunities forward.
  • Curious and analytical, with the ability to research businesses, ask effective questions, and identify potential opportunities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a customer-focused approach.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate customer and activity information.
  • Comfortable using Salesforce or other CRM systems, online research tools, email, and business technology.
  • Coachable, adaptable, and able to balance proactive market-development activity with customer-service responsibilities.
  • Driven to continually learn, improve, and take on greater responsibility.
Experience or interest in hunting, shooting, optics, outdoor recreation, or related markets is helpful but not required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • This position operates primarily in a professional, climate-controlled office environment.
  • The employee may be required to sit or stand for extended periods and regularly use a computer, telephone, and other office equipment.

WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS
  • This is a part-time, primarily in-office position.
  • Standard schedule is Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
  • Regular and reliable attendance during scheduled hours is required.
