Market Manager, Fleet Mobile Maintenance

Summary

Lead Dallas market operations for Penske's new mobile fleet maintenance business, managing 10–20 technicians, owning a multi-million-dollar P&L, driving customer growth, and co-creating operational playbooks in a startup-style environment.

Position Summary
We are building a new fleet maintenance services business focused on delivering flexible, high-quality maintenance and repair solutions to medium- and heavy-duty truck fleets.

Our new mobile service combines Penske's technician quality and maintenance infrastructure to deliver the maintenance work fleet managers need — contract-lite and on their terms. Built for fleets running 5 to 100+ units that want dealer-level repair capabilities with a service experience that feels like a real partnership.

The Market Manager, Fleet Mobile Maintenance serves as the leader of the Dallas market, responsible for operational performance, customer growth, team leadership, and profitability. This leader manages a high-performing team of technicians and support personnel, owns a multi-million-dollar P&L, and builds the customer relationships that drive retention and growth. The Market Manager role is equal parts operator and product builder — comfortable meeting with a fleet manager in the morning and sitting down with the Product Team in the afternoon. This person brings an entrepreneurial mindset with strong operational and entrepreneurial instincts. This is an in-person, Dallas-based, founding-team role. This initial leader role will help define what great operations look like at scale, help write the playbook, and shape a differentiated service experience for customers.

Major Responsibilities
Lead and Develop Technicians and Support Team
• Grow and lead a team of 10–20 technicians and support staff; own hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management at every stage
• Build a team culture grounded in mobile service’s core principles: team first, lean operations, generosity, empowerment, quality, and trust
• Coach for performance and development; identify growth paths for high performers and address performance gaps proactively
• Model a founder mentality across the team: operate with urgency, take initiative, and solve problems without waiting for permission
• Design and manage technician deployment across the DFW service area; balance geographic coverage, drive time, and job density to maximize productive hours on-site
• Drive technician recruiting in partnership with HR; build relationships with trade schools, apprenticeship programs, and the broader DFW technician community

Grow Revenue with Great Customer Relationships
• Work in close partnership with Sales to drive customer acquisition; serve as the "closer" when needed to win new business
• Serve as a key operational point of contact for mobile service fleet customers; build trust through consistency, transparency, and follow-through
• Identify opportunities to expand the scope of services delivered to existing customers — adding job types, increasing frequency, or bringing in new units
• Conduct regular customer check-ins; listen for unmet needs, recurring frustrations, and growth opportunities before they surface as churn risk
• Partner with Sales and the Product team to translate customer feedback into service improvements and commercial opportunities

Run Safe, Excellent Maintenance Operations
• Run a safe and environmentally compliant operation; set clear expectations for safe and clean work practices and remedy any safety or compliance issues promptly
• Provide credible technical oversight: a strong working knowledge of failure modes, repair types, and diagnostic approaches common in HD/MD truck maintenance is required
• Oversee daily scheduling, dispatch, and job execution; ensure technicians arrive prepared, jobs are completed on time, and documentation is accurate
• Identify operational bottlenecks (repeated estimate overruns, parts delays, certification gaps) and drive structural fixes working with the Product Operating Team
• Oversee parts operations, including supplier relationships; monitor delivery and financial performance in partnership with the support team

Manage a P&L
• Hold direct P&L responsibility for mobile service operations; understand the unit economics of the business, optimize pricing, and manage labor, parts, and overhead costs against revenue targets
• Track and improve direct operating profit (DOP) per job and for the mobile service operations team
• Partner with Finance and the VP of Product Development to forecast, review variances, and identify operational levers for margin improvement

Improve the Mobile Service Product; Embrace the Voice of the Customer
• Serve as a key source of field insight for the Product Team: document what works, what breaks, and what customers ask for that mobile service doesn't yet offer
• Build and maintain operational playbooks for each service type, capturing repeatable steps that define a high-quality customer experience from intake to invoice
• Co-create the customer experience with the Product Operating Team: translate first-hand field observations into actionable product and process improvement recommendations
• Own the feedback loop between field and product: participate in sprint reviews, flag emerging friction points in real time, and validate whether new features and workflows are landing as intended

Other projects and tasks as assigned.

Job Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
• 10–15 years of experience leading maintenance operations, with a mix of technical and customer-facing responsibility required
• Minimum of 5 of those years in a customer-facing role (e.g., dealership, maintenance shop, fleet maintenance provider) required
• Working knowledge of commercial truck maintenance: HD/MD repair, preventive maintenance programs, DOT compliance, and parts supply chain dynamics
• Demonstrated direct P&L ownership; understanding of profit levers and ability to act on operational data
• Background in commercial fleet maintenance or field service operations, either as a practitioner or in an adjacent management role
• Familiarity with field service technology platforms: scheduling, mobile technician tools, and repair order management
• Strong customer relationship skills: ability to earn trust, navigate difficult conversations, and convert satisfied customers into growing accounts
• Experience operating in a startup or early-stage business environment where the operating model was still being defined
• Proven ability to build, develop, and retain a team of skilled technicians in a demanding service environment
• An entrepreneurial mindset: move fast, take ownership, and build structure where none exists
• Demonstrated hustle and commercial drive: pursue customers with energy, find ways to win their business, and take personal ownership of retention
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
• Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required
