Market Risk Manager

Job Description:

Job Title Market Risk Manager

Location London

Corporate Title Director

As a Market Risk Manager responsible for coverage of the global Energy business, you will work with a team whose mission is to provide effective market risk oversight while supporting the expansion of the Energy trading business.

You will be responsible for managing market or fair value risk within Deutsche Bank and will carry out this responsibility in an independent and neutral way, providing a comprehensive and independent view of market risks to management. You will also be centrally responsible to support the development of effective control infrastructure, risk metrics, and risk methodology.

The primary objective of Front Office (FO)-facing market risk managers is to ensure that business units of the Bank optimise the risk-reward relationship, and do not expose it to unacceptable losses. This risk-reward objective drives the activities conducted within MVRM, and we work closely with risk takers, risk managers and control and support groups in the process to ensure these objectives can be met.

The activities of the department are not directed purely at the "risk" side of the equation, but rather at risk, reward and capital. Thus, the focus is not on restricting people from taking risk, but to enable risk to be taken where it is most optimal given the rewards and capital consumption.

Your key responsibilities

  • Engage and challenge Front Office (FO) desk heads and senior traders with respect to exposures, valuations, new business, market activity, risk culture, controls, and risk appetite; escalate risk exposures and issues as required to senior management within the CRO function, as highlighted by daily monitoring of exposures against limits, driving both the articulation and adherence to risk appetite.

  • Ensure risk completeness and accuracy, limit frameworks and appetite are commensurate with infrastructure, and that the “risks-not-in” framework is fully elaborated

  • Partner with other Market Risk teams, and other Risk management functions (e.g. Valuation Risk, Market Risk Analysis and Control, and Risk Methodology Strats), to ensure that the full suite of valuation processes, risk metrics, stress testing and reporting infrastructure, and controls, are developed and implemented to support the commercial build-out of the Energy businesses.

  • Highlight and review key risks and new important trades/products, approving where necessary, and escalating emerging risks, concentrated positions, and any risk position that is particularly vulnerable to plausible stress scenarios or current market conditions

  • Front Office: challenge the desk on the key risks as above, and work co-operatively to allow the growth of the business within the firms’ risk appetite

  • MDSA and Risk Methodology Strats teams: while you retain ultimate ownership and accountability for the outcomes, work closely with these teams to ensure metrics and methodologies for capturing the key risk positions of the business covered are well represented in their aggregated portfolio metrics

Your skills and experience

  • Solid experience in market risk management, either within the second line (market risk) or first line (trading, structuring). Experience within a regulated investment bank environment strongly preferred
