Marketing Lead
tl;dr Fresh off a $15M Series A led by Accel (total funding now $20M+), Agave is profitable, growing fast, and scaling the team. We're hiring our first full-time marketing hire: a hands-on Marketing Lead to run our marketing day to day: content, campaigns, conferences, and the website, as we go from one product to a multi-product platform.
Learn more about us here (link).
What is Agave?
We're building the financial ops platform for construction, a $12T global industry run by software built 20-40 years ago, much of it on-prem with no APIs and no documentation.
We spent 3 years building the rails to read and write across those systems, and we use them to deploy AI for invoicing, expenses, compliance, billing, and more.
We have 550+ customers and have been profitable & cashflow positive for over two years. We're backed by Accel and Y Combinator, with investors from Procore, Autodesk, and Plaid. Our three co-founders have worked together for 12+ years, across Graphiq (acquired by Amazon in 2017) and Amazon.
We've built something people actually need, in a market most of Silicon Valley ignores — which is exactly why we're winning. The only thing slowing us down is hiring. Our team is small, scrappy, and high-caliber, and we're looking for the next wave of builders who will help take Agave from breakout startup to category-defining company.
Why are we hiring this role?
Marketing at Agave has never had a full-time owner. In under a year we've gone from selling one product to five or more, and every new product adds website and product pages, announcement content, email campaigns, sales enablement, and competitive positioning.
Meanwhile, our only proven lead generation channels are referrals and conferences. We know there is real demand we're not reaching — through search, AI search, lifecycle email, review sites, webinars, paid placement.
Responsibilities
Run Agave's marketing, including (but not limited to):
Positioning & messaging — make products legible to construction finance buyers.
Own positioning and messaging across our full product line, and keep it coherent as we ship new products
Build and maintain sales enablement materials in tight partnership with sales
Own competitive differentiation as new products bring new competitors
Channel discovery — find the 1-2 repeatable lead generation channels beyond referrals and conferences.
Design, run, and read out channel experiments: paid and AI-search placement, targeted ads, lifecycle email off in-app behavior, webinars
Own and optimize our SEO and AEO presence: track rankings and AI-answer citations, and proactively improve how Agave shows up in search and AI answers
Review and manage site presence (G2, Capterra, etc.) and find creative ways to incentivize customers to leave reviews
Operate a defined experiment budget; kill what doesn't work fast, and scale what does
Stand up the analytics to know what's working (customer journey tracking, SEO/AIO rankings, funnel metrics)
Content & web — personally write and ship.
Own the website: new pages, product pages, competitor comparison pages, copy and design direction
Work with our website vendor to develop and ship new website pages
Own content production: product announcement blogs, case studies, LinkedIn, monthly product newsletters, marketing email campaigns
Keep our presence sharp on partner sites and marketplace listings
Events & field — make our strongest existing channel bigger.
Own conference materials and logistics, including running 1-2 Agave events per major conference
Create marketing materials for conferences: flyers, banners, booth assets, and handouts
Email marketing — turn our 500+ customer base into our best pipeline for new products.
Own the customer email program end to end: monthly product newsletters, new product announcements, and feature launch emails
Set up lifecycle emails triggered by in-app behavior
Build upsell campaigns that introduce existing customers to products they don't use yet, segmented by what they already own, their ERP, and how they use Agave today.
Requirements
Who you are:
3+ years of marketing experience, ideally in B2B software, with hands-on range: you have personally run campaigns, written and shipped content, or helped execute events
You've worked on a small or scrappy team (a startup, or a small marketing org) where you did the work yourself rather than routing it to others
Excited to be hands-on: you write the copy, ship the page, and run the event yourself
Comfortable figuring things out without a playbook, in a technical, unglamorous vertical
Must have:
Exceptional writing, clear, concrete, and free of marketing fluff (and AI em-dashes!)
Strong experiment design: you form a hypothesis, define success upfront, run the test, and read out honestly
Comfort partnering directly with founders and company leaders on positioning and pipeline
Bias to ship: you'd rather get a real page live this week than perfect a strategy deck
Nice to have:
Hands-on experience with Webflow
Experience writing customer emails, or working knowledge of HTML for email templates
Experience marketing to SMB or mid-market buyers in a vertical industry (construction, field services, logistics, ERPs, fintech, accounting)
Hands-on with HubSpot, Google Analytics, SEO/AIO tooling, and modern AI content workflows
Experience building sales enablement for a multi-product platform
Light design skills: you can produce a clean flyer, banner, or social graphic
Experience writing customer emails, or working knowledge of HTML for email templates
This role may be a great fit if…
You want outsized ownership early. You'll be our first full-time marketing hire, with far more scope and visibility than a marketing role at a bigger company would give you.
You're energized by greenfield. Nobody has worked these channels for this buyer. Most tests will fail; finding the two that don't is the job.
You like proximity to revenue. You'll work directly with sales, and your positioning work shows up in deals within weeks.
You still love the craft. You'd rather write the page yourself than brief an agency.
This role may NOT be for you if…
You're expecting a team and a big budget on day one. You'll be a team of one, with a defined experiment budget.
You want to focus purely on strategy. At our size the marketing lead personally writes, ships, and runs events.
You need an established playbook. Construction finance buyers aren't reached the way SaaS playbooks assume.
You prefer remote work. We're in-person in San Francisco 5 days/week.
Benefits
Healthcare: we cover 90% of your healthcare costs with several plan options.
401k: we match 100% of your contributions, up to 4% of annual salary.
Gym: on-site gym with Peloton, squat rack, Tempo, Yoga setup, and more.
Visa: we sponsor Visas (H1B, TN, etc.) for candidates who are a good fit!
Performance Bonuses: we offer annual performance bonuses when we hit company growth goals. For 2026, the bonus is 15% of your base salary or OTE. We've had these bonuses for the last 3 years, and expect to continue to have them in subsequent years.
Relocation Assistance: sizable relocation bonus for folks currently located outside of the Bay Area, and a bonus for anyone (even within the Bay Area) who moves within a 15-minute walk of our office. If you're moving from another city to the Bay Area, we'll cover the cost of your 1st month of an Airbnb in San Francisco.
Commuter benefits: employees can make pre-tax contributions toward commuting costs, and we'll cover the full cost of a Muni pass for those using public transit.
In-Person
We've built Agave in-person since day 1, and will maintain an in-person culture in San Francisco going forward. We form tighter bonds, build a stronger culture, and move faster since we're all working from one location.
Our office is at 101 New Montgomery Street, San Francisco, right near Salesforce Park, coffee shops & restaurants, and a bustling downtown. We believe building in-person is a huge strategic advantage, and we hope you'll join us.
