About AMVETS

AMVETS (American Veterans) is a Congressionally chartered veterans service organization founded in 1944. With more than 250,000 members, it advocates for and serves veterans, active-duty service members, their families, and survivors. National Headquarters recently relocated to Washington, PA (265 North Avenue) to better serve veterans in a high-veteran-per-capita community while maintaining a National Capital presence for advocacy work.

A major funding stream is the network of AMVETS thrift stores (operated primarily through the AMVETS National Service Foundation). These stores sell donated clothing, household goods, and other items to the public at affordable prices. Net proceeds support veteran programs, scholarships, claims assistance, and other services. The enterprise includes corporate-owned and owner/operator locations across multiple states, along with partner companies that handle donation pickups, operations, and related services.

Organizational Relationships and Position Summary:

The AMVETS NSF Marketing Manager reports directly to the AMVETS National Executive Director. The AMVETS NSF Marketing Manager will promote AMVETS' thrift store enterprise and strengthen collaboration with partner companies' marketing teams. This role combines brand strategy, digital and traditional marketing, local-store support, donor and shopper engagement, and cross-organizational coordination. The goal is to increase foot traffic, donations, brand awareness, and revenue that directly funds veteran services—all while reinforcing AMVETS' mission of veterans serving veterans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute national and regional marketing strategies for the thrift store line, including brand guidelines, messaging that connects shopping/donating to veteran impact, and performance tracking.
  • Create and manage content (social media, email, website, print, in-store signage, video) that drives store visits, donation volume, and community engagement. Emphasize unique finds, weekly sales, sustainability, and mission stories.
  • Collaborate closely with partner companies' marketing teams to align campaigns, co-branded promotions, pickup service messaging, and shared assets. Serve as the primary liaison for marketing coordination.
  • Support local stores and operators with toolkits, campaign templates, local SEO/Google Business Profile guidance, social media calendars, and event promotion ideas.
  • Plan and oversee digital advertising (paid social, search, display), organic social growth, email marketing, and influencer/community partnerships where appropriate.
  • Track and report on key metrics (traffic, donations, sales lift, engagement, ROI) and use data to refine strategies.
  • Ensure all marketing materials reflect AMVETS' values, maintain brand consistency, and comply with nonprofit guidelines.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (Communications, Programs, Finance, Thrift Operations) and external agencies or freelancers as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for new partnerships, seasonal campaigns, and expansion support for the thrift enterprise.
