About the Role
Rutherford Management Company is hiring a Marketing and Training Intern to work directly with our Marketing and Training Specialist out of our Walnut Creek office. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants real experience in property marketing, digital content, employee training, and talent acquisition.
You'll touch projects that serve both our residents and our employees: auditing property websites, building marketing collateral, drafting social content, assembling training materials, and getting out to our communities for site visits and resident events.
This position begins as a 30-day internship. At the end of the first 30 days, you'll receive a formal evaluation, and if you're in good standing, there's room to grow - expanded project ownership, additional responsibilities, and more hours.
What You'll Do
Marketing & Digital Presence
- Audit property websites for accuracy - floor plans, pricing, amenities, photos, contact info - and flag what needs fixing
- Create and format flyers, brochures, signage, and digital graphics that follow our brand standards
- Draft and schedule content for company and property social media pages
- Compile monthly reporting on website traffic, social engagement, and lead sources
- Help coordinate property photography and keep our photo and media libraries current
Training & Onboarding
- Assemble and format training materials, job aides, checklists, and onboarding documents
- Maintain training records, completion trackers, and internal document libraries
- Support scheduling and logistics for internal and external training sessions
On-Site & Event Support
- Join site visits to document curb appeal, signage condition, and marketing material inventory
- Help plan, set up, and run resident events - supplies, sign-in, and event photography
General
- Keep project files and meeting notes organized
- Track project progress and provide status updates
- Handle employee and resident information with confidentiality and discretion
What We're Looking For
- Strong written communication and a sharp eye for detail
- Comfort with basic design and productivity tools (Canva, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, or similar)
- Familiarity with major social media platforms in a business context
- Someone who follows through, asks questions, and takes feedback well
- Ability to work independently and stay organized across multiple projects
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred - this role includes travel to our properties for site visits and resident events
- Interest in marketing, communications, human resources, or property management
- Current students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply
Schedule & Compensation
- Pay: $21.00-23.00 per hour
- Schedule: Tuesday through Thursday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Classification: Hourly, non-exempt, part-time
- Location: On-site at our Walnut Creek, CA office, with travel to RMC properties
- Initial term: 30 days, with a formal performance evaluation at the end of the period. Schedule and scope may expand based on performance and business needs.
How You'll Be Evaluated
At the 30-day mark, we'll review:
- Attendance and punctuality - consistent adherence to the agreed schedule
- Work ethic and initiative - follow-through, willingness to take on tasks, productive use of time
- Quality and accuracy - attention to detail, correctness, and adherence to brand standards
- Communication and professionalism - responsiveness, clarity, and conduct with staff, residents, and vendors
- Project completion - assigned projects delivered on time and to expectation
- Receptiveness to feedback - applying coaching and direction to subsequent work
A satisfactory evaluation may lead to expanded assignments, additional project ownership, increased hours, and continued engagement with the company. Continuation beyond the initial 30 days is at the sole discretion of Rutherford Management Company.
This is a new and developing position. Duties may be added or modified as the company and the needs of the business evolve.
