MATERIALS R&D ENGINEER
Summary
Develops and optimizes high-performance intermetallic compounds and functional crystalline materials, bridging lab-scale synthesis to pilot-scale production while supporting global technology transfer.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Materials R&D Engineer will focus on the development, characterization, and process optimization of high-performance intermetallic compounds and functional crystalline materials. The role bridges laboratory-scale synthesis and pilot-scale production and supports technology and process transfer between the company's global manufacturing sites.
Upon onboarding, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a 6-month to 1-year overseas attachment at a manufacturing site to gain industrial exposure and support technology-transfer preparations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Microstructural Analysis: Utilize SEM,EDX, and XRD to analyze grain boundaries and phase distributions in multi-component alloy systems.
- Surface Engineering: Assist in developing coating and plating solutions to improve the oxidation resistance and durability of alloy compositions.
- Process Optimization: Translate lab-scale synthesis results into robust, repeatable pilot- and production-scale processes.
- Data Synthesis: Maintain meticulous records of experimental parameters and correlate processing variables with final material performance.
- Technology Transfer: Support process and technology transfer across manufacturing sites, e.g. China, India, and Vietnam.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with production, quality, and site engineering teams to troubleshoot material and process issues.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or Applied Physics.
- 1–3 years of hands-on experience in a metallurgical lab or R&D environment.
- Familiarity with powder metallurgy techniques (pressing, sintering, and post-sintering heat treatments).
- Experience with precision measurement tools and statistical process control (SPC).
- Strong spoken and written proficiency in English and Mandarin; additional languages are an advantage for global collaboration.
- Willingness to travel frequently, with approximately 25% of time based in Singapore and 75% overseas.
- Willingness and ability to undertake a 6-month to 1-year overseas attachment for technology transfer.
