The Meat Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the Meat Department to ensure exceptional customer service, food safety compliance, sales growth, profitability, inventory accuracy, and team development. This position oversees daily department operations, maintains high standards of product quality and freshness, drives merchandising excellence, and develops a high-performing team to support the overall success of the store.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations- Oversee the daily operations of the Meat Department.
- Ensure department conditions consistently meet company standards for quality, presentation, cleanliness, and safety.
- Monitor production, inventory levels, and merchandising plans to maintain product availability.
- Execute company initiatives, promotional programs, and operational objectives.
- Maintain organized sales floor, preparation areas, coolers, freezers, and backroom storage areas.
- Deliver and promote exceptional customer service throughout the department.
- Assist customers with product selection, preparation recommendations, and special orders.
- Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
- Foster a customer-focused culture that drives satisfaction and loyalty.
- Ensure associates provide friendly, knowledgeable, and respectful service.
- Maintain attractive, fully stocked, and properly signed displays.
- Ensure fresh, high-quality meat products are available throughout operating hours.
- Monitor proper rotation, dating, and presentation of all products.
- Execute seasonal, holiday, and promotional merchandising programs.
- Review sales trends and adjust displays and inventory levels to maximize sales opportunities.
- Manage inventory levels to support sales while minimizing waste.
- Order products according to sales forecasts and business needs.
- Monitor and control shrink through proper receiving, storage, rotation, and production practices.
- Conduct inventory counts and maintain accurate records.
- Identify opportunities to improve inventory management and productivity.
- Ensure compliance with all company food safety, sanitation, health, and safety standards.
- Monitor cooler, freezer, and display case temperatures.
- Maintain proper handling, storage, labeling, and sanitation procedures.
- Ensure all associates follow safe food handling practices.
- Address and correct food safety concerns immediately.
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop department associates.
- Set clear performance expectations and provide ongoing feedback.
- Create schedules that align labor with business demand and productivity goals.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, and associate engagement.
- Support succession planning and career development opportunities.
- Manage labor expenses and department operating costs.
- Monitor department performance, sales, gross profit, and shrink metrics.
- Develop action plans to improve financial results and operational performance.
- Achieve department sales, profit, and productivity goals.
- Identify opportunities to increase efficiency and drive profitability.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous meat department experience required.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of meat cutting, merchandising, food safety, and inventory management.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Basic computer, scheduling, and reporting skills.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of products up to company standards.
- Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer environments.
- Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and repetitive hand movements.
- Ability to safely operate department equipment, including knives, saws, grinders, slicers, and pallet jacks.
