The Meat Manager is responsible for directing all aspects of the Meat Department, including sales, merchandising, inventory management, food safety, labor planning, customer service, and associate development. This position ensures the department consistently delivers high-quality fresh meat products while achieving sales, profitability, and operational goals. The Meat Manager maintains department standards for freshness, presentation, sanitation, and regulatory compliance while creating an exceptional shopping experience for customers.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations- Oversee the daily operations of the Meat Department.
- Ensure high standards of product quality, freshness, presentation, and availability.
- Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked service cases, displays, and backroom areas.
- Execute merchandising programs, promotions, and seasonal sales plans.
- Monitor department productivity and operational performance.
- Ensure appropriate department staffing to meet customer and business needs.
- Manage ordering, receiving, inventory control, and replenishment activities.
- Maintain proper inventory levels while minimizing shrink and product loss.
- Ensure accurate pricing, labeling, and promotional signage.
- Monitor product movement and adjust orders based on sales trends and forecasts.
- Oversee product rotation using First-In, First-Out (FIFO) inventory practices.
- Maintain attractive displays that maximize sales and enhance product presentation.
- Achieve department sales, gross margin, and profitability goals.
- Analyze sales reports and key operational metrics.
- Develop and implement action plans to improve department performance.
- Manage labor expenses through effective scheduling and productivity management.
- Control shrink through proper inventory management, training, and operational execution.
- Support company initiatives designed to improve financial performance.
- Promote and model outstanding customer service standards.
- Assist customers with product selection, preparation recommendations, and special orders.
- Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
- Ensure associates provide knowledgeable and friendly service.
- Build customer loyalty through quality products and exceptional service.
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop department associates.
- Establish clear performance expectations and accountability standards.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback.
- Foster teamwork, engagement, and a positive work environment.
- Identify and develop future leaders within the department.
- Ensure associates are properly trained on cutting, handling, merchandising, and food safety procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, health, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor product handling, storage, labeling, and temperature controls.
- Maintain department records and documentation as required.
- Conduct routine inspections and take corrective action when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Promote a safe environment for customers and associates.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of knives, cutting equipment, grinders, slicers, and other department tools.
- Identify and correct workplace safety hazards promptly.
- Support loss prevention programs and shrink reduction initiatives.
- Maintain compliance with workplace safety policies and procedures.
