Mechanic -- Champion Local Schools

Position:
- Mechanic –8 hrs. per day at Champion Schools (260 day contract)
Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of and experience as a mechanic.
- Proficiency in the repair and maintenance of buses, trucks, and maintenance equipment.
- Basic knowledge of body repair, welding, and fabrication.
- Ability to maintain high standards of safety and good housekeeping.
- Ability to respond to transportation-related emergencies.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications in relevant areas (e.g., brakes, diesel engines, electrical/electronic systems, compressed natural gas, and school bus conversion equipment) preferred.
- Familiarity with state and federal regulations related to school bus operation, vehicle emissions, inspections, and driver qualifications under all OAC 3301-83 codes.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal transportation regulations, including OSHA, DOT, and EPA standards.
- Must hold a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B or higher, with School Bus (S), Passenger (P), and Air Brake endorsements, or be willing to obtain the appropriate CDL classifications within six months.
- Must hold or be able to obtain Ohio School Bus Operator Certification through pre-service training and in-service requirements under OAC 3301-83.10.
- Must hold current, successful BCI and FBI background checks.
- Must successfully pass a drug screen.
- Must be willing to carry out the duties outlined in the job description.
- Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director or Superintendent.
