Mechanical Design Lead – Commercial fit-out & refurb

Kenneth Brian Associates are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Design Lead to take ownership of mechanical design delivery across tenders and live projects. This is a senior technical role, responsible for maintaining design standards, coordinating resources and ensuring solutions are compliant, practical and delivered to programme.

Key Duties

• Lead mechanical design delivery from tender and project handover through detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning and close-out.
• Develop design strategies, programmes, deliverables and risk controls, coordinating workloads across the design team.
• Review and approve mechanical calculations, equipment selections, schematics, layouts, specifications, schedules and technical submissions.
• Lead design coordination and technical meetings with project teams, consultants, clients, manufacturers and specialist subcontractors.
• Provide technical leadership through construction and commissioning, resolving design issues and overseeing as-built, O&M and final design close-out.

Experience Needed

• Proven experience in a Senior or Lead Mechanical Design role within an MEP contractor, building-services consultancy or design-and-build environment.
• Strong mechanical building-services knowledge, particularly across HVAC, water services and associated controls.
• Experience managing the full design lifecycle, including tender review, detailed design, procurement support, construction, commissioning and handover.
• Strong technical and leadership skills, with experience managing Design Engineers and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams across multiple projects.
• Relevant Mechanical Engineering or Building Services qualification (degree/HNC/HND or equivalent), with experience using design/calculation software such as IES or HEVACOMP and reviewing Revit/AutoCAD information.
