MECHANICAL DESIGN MANAGER

ROLE SUMMARY

The Mechanical Design Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating all mechanical engineering aspects of projects, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and specialized systems, throughout the entire project lifecycle, from concept development and design management to construction support.

This role involves providing technical leadership, managing design consultants, reviewing engineering deliverables, and working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, efficient, buildable, and maintainable mechanical solutions aligned with project objectives, applicable regulations, international standards, and company design guidelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and coordinate mechanical design activities throughout all project stages, from concept development to construction support
• Review and assess mechanical design submissions, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and specialized systems, technical drawings, specifications, calculations, and BIM models
• Ensure mechanical design solutions meet project briefs, performance requirements, lifecycle expectations, local authority regulations, international standards, and company design guidelines
• Manage and coordinate external design consultants and monitor the timely implementation and closure of technical comments and recommendations.
• Coordinate with architectural, structural, electrical, project management, procurement, cost management, planning, and facility management teams to ensure fully integrated design solutions
• Participate in BIM coordination processes and support the resolution of multidisciplinary design clashes and MEP interface issues
• Propose value engineering solutions to optimize cost, performance, sustainability, energy efficiency, and operational efficiency
• Ensure mechanical systems are practical, constructible, maintainable, and suitable for long-term operation, with appropriate access, serviceability, and lifecycle considerations
• Identify technical risks related to system performance, constructability, coordination, and maintainability, and propose appropriate mitigation measures
• Prepare technical scopes of work and support procurement and consultant appointment processes
• Support authority approval processes and coordinate technical documentation with relevant stakeholders and local authorities
• Ensure commissioning, testing, maintainability, and operational requirements are considered during design development
• Present technical solutions, design options, recommendations, and project risks to internal and external stakeholders
• Support the development and continuous improvement of internal design standards, guidelines, and technical processes

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Master’s Degree is considered an advantage

Experience

• Minimum 8 years of experience in mechanical or MEP design
• Proven experience on large-scale residential, mixed-use, commercial, hospitality, retail, or infrastructure developments
• Experience in reviewing design documentation and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams
• Previous experience working on the developer side, client side, or within reputable engineering consultancy firms is considered an advantage
• International project experience is a plus

Technical & Professional Skills

• Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, and related mechanical systems
• Good understanding of international engineering standards, local regulatory requirements, and authority approval processes
• Experience with BIM processes and design coordination, including review of BIM models and coordination outputs
• Ability to evaluate design solutions from technical, operational, constructability, maintainability, and cost perspectives
• Understanding of energy-efficient and sustainable building design principles is considered an advantage
• Knowledge of commissioning principles, testing and commissioning procedures, and integrated systems requirements is considered an advantage
• Strong coordination, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
• Excellent English communication skills
